I've checked thru all the threads and cannot find an answer to my problem. Hope somebody else has found a solution.

Putting a 93 Taurus fan on my 68, 454 with a long-neck water pump. Only have about 4" of clearence but if I get creative I can mount it off-center with the shroud covering 75% of raditor(stock big-block). The problem is the motor for the fan sits in the area between the water pump pulley and the power steering pump pulley and the connection for the wiring plug is only 1/4" away from the water pump pulley so I can't plub it in. My question, is there a way to turn the fan motor in the housing so I can rotate the plug to an open area?

Also, has anyone else mounted one off-center and if so does it still cool effectively? Thanks so much!!!

Maybe you turn it upside down? Or can you trim any of the shroud like the Lincoln fan. Just a thought

Tried every angle I could get to squeeze the fan in and this position is the only one that looks somewhat efficient. Actually it is upside down now. Also looked at trimming, but that doesn't look like it will help much.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a 70 with a BBC with LWP and 4 core rad, I had to turn it upside down and offset on the rad core to get it to fit, there wasn't much room left, but after 3 years its never contacted. It cools great even offset on the rad core. I also had to remove just a bit of material from the shroud.
I would not use any other fan now!

Yes you can rotate the fan motor in the shroud. I had to rotate mine down so I would have the harness going down. You have to file a litlle piece of plastic down but it took me about 5 minutes. If you have the Taurus fan you will see when you remove the 3 bolts that hold the fan to the shroud. I also had to turn the fan assembly so it was off set just a little to clear the pump pulley. Feel fraa to ask me more or I can shoot you some pictures if needed.

I have a 69 and I went to the short pump stuff. I had the Lincoln fan 1st. but wouldn't fit and I didn't want to trim it because if I did I couldn't return it, so I went to the Taurus fan and short pump and all is well. It's still close to the pulley maybe an .5 to 1 inch. But that's what you'll need. Also if ya want a good deal or pulleys try Noah Perf. that's where I got mine. smile.gif

Thanks guys, that really helps. Am going to try and stay away from changing pump & brackets if I can. I know I'll get carried away with that and end up making everything chrome and spending 3 times the original cost. Man, it is really hard to stick to a budget!!!

Mike, how do you get the clip off that hold the fan blades on to the motor so you can get inside? Looks like no clip I've seen before. Thanks....Steve

Steve,
I cant remember what the clip looks like but I didnt have to remove it it. All I had to do was remove the 3 motor mount bolts and spin the fan in the shroud until it was where I needed it than I just reinstalled the 3 bolts. I did have ti file the shroud a little to fit the fan flush as there is a square lug to fit the fan in a certain postion for the Taurus but its no big deal and it doesnt affect the fan strength in any way.

Hi Mike, I'm beginning to think I have got the wrong fan from the junkyard. I've seen picture of how your fan motor mounts and mine is held in place with 3 studs that you must unbolt after taking off the fan blades to expose the interior of the motor. The problem is I can't see a way to get the blades off. Also, the thickness of the unit is almost 6", but it does have 3 wires, so I don't know what it is. May have to go try another one from another salvage yard.
