MrDanB Feb 26th, 05, 05:57 AM Hi there! Just a quick post to see if I've totally botched things up this time. :D ....
My current radiator is oem from GM, it has had a
hard life! The mounting flanges are broken, fins are flattened, and sprung a leak, etc. I read a post saying that radiators.com is pretty good, so I checked them out and bought a "oem style-exact fit replacement". I can see already that the new one is both thicker (2 core), and seems to be a little wider than the old one. It has the mounting flanges and looks about the same, but will it bolt right into the support, or will I need to drill new holes etc? Also, since it's a bigger rediator, will that change anything? Need a different thermostat? Thanks for the help guys!!

Geezer Feb 26th, 05, 06:23 AM It should bolt up, it sounds like a Firebird radiator. There are two sets of holes in the driver’s side of the support. Any of the Camaros I’ve seen were small blocks and used the inside set of holes with a three core radiator at the largest. I’ve never seen a big block A/C Camaro but all of the birds I’ve had were auto a/c cars and used a wider, four core that bolted to the outer set of holes. Any way the only problems I can think of, that I just realized I’m going to have because I’ve got a bird radiator, is the fan shroud isn’t going to fit flush to the tank on that side and the upper radiator hose will need to be longer.
DOUG G Feb 26th, 05, 09:27 AM MrDanB, if your old radiator is a Harrison,You might make a few dollars selling it... http://jlradiator.com/ repairs and restores them.
MrDanB Feb 26th, 05, 06:27 PM Thanks for the replies! After I shake the flu, I'm going to pull the old one and see how this new one bolts up. The packaging states that it is specifically for a 69 Camaro with a 350. (mine has a 327 out of a 68 Camaro...) It should work out o.k. Also, I'll check into selling the old one to make a few bucks...

alumitech Feb 27th, 05, 03:08 AM Hey Dan
First off you should mesure the channel on top of the O.E.M rad WAS IT 20.75 INCHES BETWEEN THE HEADERS thats normal for most small blocks then there was a 23.00 inch job for big block THERE 2 SETS OF HOLE MOUNTINGS I HEAR ON THE CAMARO CORE SUPPORTS as to fit both styles
it would be advisable to take the o.e.m rad to a rad shop FOR A RECORE JOB .. if the tanks were in good shape and had the harrison embossments .. this keeps things o.e.m for showing
IF you are looking to go Aluminum to keep things cooler I can build what you want with O.E.M STYLING ..you can get a gander of our work on www.chevellecooling.com (http://www.chevellecooling.com)
here to help with cooling issues
