View Full Version : need rear top bow measurement ???? 68 327 convert Jan 20th, 02, 01:43 AM well it is time for the new top to go on and i need the correct placement measurement for the rear bow ! the top was allredy stripped and this is the starting point anyone ? MARTINSR Jan 20th, 02, 05:37 AM There isn't a "right" place for the top to go. All of those large sloppy holes are there for a reason. They are there to move the top all over hell and gone to make it fit. The best thing you can do is get a GM (not some BS , but a Genuine GM) "Body service manual". I see them on ebay all the time. You want one for your year, of course. I am looking at a 1964 right now, I would think it is the same or VERY close. There is MANY pages of text and photos/drawings to instruct you on aligning the "folding top assy". I can send you a few pages, but I think your best bet is to get the manual. There is complete instruction on installing the "trim" (the cloth part) of the top even. It has a wealth of information. Let me know, if you want me to send you some and I will. But check out Ebay. ------------------ Fan of anything that is interesting and moves human beings. 1965 Buick Gran Sport Convertible 1965 Buick Skylark H/T 1948 Chevy PU with 401 Buick 68 327 convert Jan 20th, 02, 08:55 AM actually the one and only measurement needed is the rear bow this is set by tacking in the pads to hold it and it sets your rear window in place all other follow by adjustment this is what the installer has told me anyway just wondering if anyone else has run into this ? MARTINSR Jan 20th, 02, 11:43 AM 68, I am miles from a convertible top expert but I think what you are refering to is if the top frame was not touched and it fit before the fabric was removed. Is that all you have done? I was under the assumtion that you had removed the frame. ------------------ Fan of anything that is interesting and moves human beings. 1965 Buick Gran Sport Convertible 1965 Buick Skylark H/T 1948 Chevy PU with 401 Buick 68 327 convert Jan 20th, 02, 01:25 PM the frame has never been removed just the top fabric ! but if you have ever had one off you would understand that the rear most bow is no stationary but moves a foot fron or back and needs to be set at a pre determined spot that is what i need i think i will contact rick's in the morning they should have the measurement thanks for the imput KevinW Jan 21st, 02, 03:54 AM The Fisher body manual has a procedure to locate the last bow using a wooden stick with some hooks on the end. The give a detailed description on how to make the stick including the length (if I remember correctly). I will have to dig out the book and check.
