What are "Cocktail Shakers" on my 68 Camaro Convertible and what do they do?

welcome to the site.

Well, I seem to recall this question being brought up before and the answer eludes my memory. You can use the search function at the top right of the screen to look for this topic.

They are located in the trunk mounted to brackets in the rear corners and the front shakers are mounted just behind the headlight buckets.

CJ I know where they are Im trying to figure out what they do.. A lot of folks have told me how I need to make sure I have them, but they don't know why. Thanks for the help. Looks like you live just down the road from me. I just purchased this convertible this past week.

Welcome.
Cocktail shakers are mounted on the four corners of the car for dampening, since the car has no roof to connect the front to the back all the load is on the rocker panels. If you look in the trunk the will be in the corners, they are about 5" round, about 8" high and weight I think 25 lbs. The two up front are mounted up under the fender attached to the rad. support and innner fender.

Thanks Boodlefoof, I found the answer by doing the search you suggested. The Codktail Shakers are there for vibration dampning at certain speeds because of the original car was not designed to be a convertible. I should have gone to the search function first. Thanks all!!
