I have a 68 convertible that is missing the "SHAKERS" are they in any other cars or just the Camaros?

They are installed in 67-69 Fbodies (conv.) and they control the harmonics that plagued the convertiables. Without them the car would shiver and shake, everytime you hit the smallest bump.

front shakers are different for different years. 69's are different than 68's and wont interchange, 67 and 68 may be the same. Rears are the same for all 3 years.

What are shakers?
How do they work?
Can coupes benefit from them?

How hard are these to find and how much would they be worth? I wonder why only the F bodys required them?

My guess is that they are hard to find. Ive only seen one set of four come up on Ebay. I cant remember what they sold for. You might try the various classic suppliers as they do carry used parts also. You might try the search option on this site because there was a guy here that had some he took out of a parts car.

I did take mine out but the car isnt complete yet and I dont know if I will be using them or not as my car will basically be full frame when finished, but if I dont need them I will advertise them here for sale before I put them on ebay.

Convertible F-bodies don't have the added structural integrity that a steel roof gives coupes, so they're more prone to flex and other distortions. Other GM convertibles didn't need them because unlike the Camaro/Firebird subframe setup, Chevelles, GTOs, and the like, AND the full-size cars, all had full perimeter frames up till at least '72.

Yes, the "cocktail shakers" were used in other cars. They were used on T-bird and Lincoln convertibles back as far as '61 and also used on the 65-69 Corvair ragtops.

They are advertised in D&R but I do not know how available they are. They will list it even if they do not have any currently. I located 2 replacements for the front of mine (the former owner threw them out http://www.camaros.net/forum/mad.gif ) in a small shop in CA and if I remember correct I paid about $150 each. Expensive for what is basically a fluid filled weight.
