I need to install shoulder belts in my 69 ragtop. I like to cruise with my 5 years old and don't feel confident with her just in lapbelt. What is involved? Is there a retro-kit?
Thx in advance.

I think this is what you are looking for. I have heard good things about this kit but have not installed it myself.

Good luck.

This seems like an option, but I really want to keep it looking original. Did ragtops not come with a factory shoulder belt option from the factory? I remember seeing a post about the proper anchor bolt being in the roof frame area. I want to know a) was it actually a factory option b) did it work well and convenient (like modern three point harness) c) is there a repo kit available. Thx

Front and rear shoulder belts were separate options on a convertible that were available from the factory. Less than 100 cars were equipped with either the front or rear sets, probably only a handfull with both.

There is no kit available for installing them, although a guy sells front sets on Ebay every so often. These belts are a bit long at 61" for the fronts in a Camaro which are normally about 48" long and would work well as rears.

Don't know how well the stock setup works for kids, because they cross the rear of the seat at a pretty steep angle.

Scroll down in this link to see pics of shoulder belts in a 67 convertible.

I'm planning on having some made for my droptop (original style). I also want to cruise safely with my kids.

Not very pretty. Were they not retractible in 1969? The aftermarket setup is looking better. Anybody done it?

I'm considering these for my kids.

Granted they are 3 and 5 and both are less than 40lbs. These would only be while they remain car seat age, but with a 5 pt harness, they got to be way safer than any DOT tested approve boster seat.

When they get larger it probably wouldn't be that hard to mount a 5 pt harness to the original anchor points and then fabricate some kind of mount for the seat back straping them tightly to the orginal back seat.
What do you guys think?

As far as roll over goes thes cars arn't safe for any of us.
