Are the 1/4 panels for conv's the same as for htops? NPD sells the same 1/4 for both. They say just cut the sail panel off. Will this work? Has anyone used a 1/4 panel from NPD?

Here's how the new stamped NPD '68 Firebird coupe quarter worked on my convertible. If your referring to a '67 or '68, I believe the only differences from camaro are the Firebird's chevrons and the '68 marker cutout shapes.

looks like you ended up with a great fit. It sounds like this is not a DIY job. I thought that by buying the whole 1/4 it might be. It looked like you cut off the jam area,How was the quality in this area? That is the part I need, due to getting up close and personal with a tree.

If I recall, the quality of the jam area was good on the repro quarter. Mine was seamed in at the outside of the jam for two reasons: First, the convertibles (at least on Firebirds) do not have the vent cut into the jam area that the coupes have, thus the repro has a cutout that would have to be filled in. Second, since the jam on mine was still very good, the body shop decided on the seam location.

I read that Dynscorn was poor quality? I went to NPD to look at the ones they sell, don't know which brand they sell, but they were out at that time. How about Goodmark how is thier quality? I need one that a rank amatuer can install with no welding.

Due to my experience with Dynacorn (also DII), I would suggest you stay away from them. Goodmark is generally good quality stuff, your best choice outside of GM.

Are you sure the convertible quarters are available? I called my Goodmark distributor last week and he said "no." I also emailed Dynacorn and was told the project was on hold despite their showing them available on the website. Has anyone bought these?

Also, do the '67 hardtops come with, or without the jam vent?

Thanks,

John

The original question to this topic was are conv. 1/4's the same as a coupe? The only differences are up near where the rear window panel and the 1/4 come together. There is an extra style line that the conv. has that the coupe doesnt have. Also watch the 1/4 window area where the outer weatherstrip attaches to, one might be wider than the other, its been awhile since I spliced coupe 1/4's.

The quarter window sill on the convertibles tapers and gets wider as you go away from the door. (The sill on the hardtops was the same width over its length.)

The convertible quarters also don't have a vent hole in the jam. The '67 hardtop quarters came without the jam vent, but I've heard mixed answers on how the repro '67s are made. Hence my question above.

Jet_car2000,

I just called Rick's a few days ago and they said they don't have the convert quarters, haven't had them, and don't expect to have them for quite some time. The new eta from OER is mid to late 2005. I'm actually doing a Firebird so the hardtop quarters are just going to require too much work. I decided earlier today to carefully cut the old quarter section off (a bad repair from long ago) and reinstall it correctly, then repair the fender lip rust with a skin.
