I'm getting my rear window tinted and want to take out the glass myself to save on cash. What's the best way to do this once I have the molding off?

What's the best way to do this once I have the molding off? 67rs6sdd Jan 17th, 04, 05:09 PM Best way In my opion is using a pc of wire I think it's made of brass/brone and it has a course texture to it.Using pilers push it thru the seal so now half the wire is in the car and the other half is out.Using a sawing motion work your way around the window go slow or else graemlins/clonk.gif .It's easier with a helper on one end.I think eastwood has it in the catolog.Sorry can't recall the proper name,I've done 5 cars this way and had no problems.Good Luck 68rs406 Jan 17th, 04, 07:59 PM most all parts houses (i'm sure napa has them) sell good tool designed for that. it has an L shaped blade on one end, and a handle attached to a cable for pulling around the seal. i know thats a crappy description, its hard to describe, but if you go to a parts house and talk to someone that has a clue (good luck with that ;) ) and describe what your looking for, they will likely have one. EDIT ok, i checked out online and found this, check it out, its called a "cold knife" (http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/TA-87900.html) i bought one just like that at pep boys i believe. they work excellent, i've done front and back glass on both camaros i've owned, and its real easy. word of caution, be VERY PATIENT when doing this, if you plan on saving the glass. its easy to do, but easy to break the glass if you get in a big hurry. take your time and all is good. also, if your trying to remove a windshield, if its cracked anywhere, fat chance getting it out in as is condition. good luck with it, its easy! graemlins/thumbsup.gif |
