View Full Version : Choke kit purchase? Domano 68 Jan 18th, 04, 06:28 AM I am looking for a choke kit for my 68 327 2 barrel carb. Rick's, and Year One only have for a 4 barrel. Thanks! Domano 68 Jan 19th, 04, 03:25 AM Also, at the present, the choke is disconnected. Would this affect gas mileage? Its horrible at the present. Thanks! click Jan 19th, 04, 04:42 AM Domano your local NAPA or other parts store can find that kit in their Holley or Rochester catalog. I got one for a Holley from NAPA. Take in all the numbers off your carb and they should be able to help you. If its cool in the morning, the choke will actualy help it to run much better at start up. Once the engine is warm, the choke backs off and does not affect mileage unless it doesnt close completely, then it will suck gas something terrible. Hope this helps. graemlins/thumbsup.gif Domano 68 Jan 19th, 04, 06:00 AM Click, Thanks for the help. Sorry for being so basic, but the choke coil and other parts are off the carb. What is the easiest way to tell if it is stuck partially closed? Thanks. click Jan 19th, 04, 08:46 AM If the choke is not set right the steel flapper inside the opening to the car throat will be partially closed, that needs to be verticle to not obstruct the air flow when warm. If its partially closed when warm, it pulls more gas thru the carb and causes flooding and rough idle and uses a ton of gas while driving. the choke closes down those butterflies when cold then slowly opens them as the engine warms. graemlins/thumbsup.gif Domano 68 Jan 19th, 04, 01:55 PM Click, Sorry again for being so basic, but I don't know carbs very well. Anyway, the choke plate is almost straight up and down. To be exact, it has some play in it and is about 85 - 90 degrees from the fully closed position. I am assuming when you are talking about it being partially closed you are saying it would be somewhere in the 45 degree or less range? Napa does have the kit, however it will be about $60! Anyway, will it hurt the car or carb if I drive without the choke spring on the car? I understand it will take a while to warm up but other than that? Thanks again! |
