I am getting ready to replace the rear end and transmission. I dont have the resources to both at the same time so which one should I do first? I would like to replace the old 2sp pg with a 350 turbo. What kind of rear end would go with that type trans?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello and welcome to the site!

I personally did the trans first and the rear later. I too swapped out a PG for a TH350... I later refinished the rear with a set of 3.73 gears and a posi carrier.

While the TH350 is a good swap... if I had it to do over again, I'd spend the extra money to have put in a TH200-4R or some other automatic overdrive (the TH700-R4 is popular). With the TH350 and the 3.73 gears, it gets a bit tiring turning around 3000rpm at 65 mph. Alternatively, I could have just gone with a slightly more highway friendly gear... but I wanted the deeper gearset.

Someday I'm going to put in a 6 speed manual! graemlins/hurray.gif

Good luck.

I'm with Dan on swapping the tranny first. What engine are you running and are you swapping the rear for a 12 Bolt or an 8.5" 10 Bolt. If money is the issue, you can build a 8.5 a lot cheaper and is close to a 12 Bolt in strength. I'm also swapping my rearend and I'm going with a 8.5 10 bolt out of a 72 Nova. I'll have about $800 into when its done.

I did the trans on my car first, sill haven’t gotten to the rear, It wines like crazy but I am just happy the car is on the road again. I see you’re an Okie more of us every day.
