I have consulted the "Camaro Restoration Handbook" on a few occassions... it covers first and second gens.
Also, I've got a bit of a writeup on my webpage about doing a full front subframe-off resto on my webpage under the "summer 2002" section.

I bought several books about restoring 1st gen Camaros. They're good reading, but I have yet to see a thorough step by step....It would be huge. You might get one of the resto books for a general idea, but what you really need is the collection of GM manuals. Chassis Overhaul, Chassis Repair, Assembly, Fisher Body. The Assembly Manual is by far the most valuable for the resto. GET IT FOR SURE!! It will give you lots of details on how things are supposed to look. Best $20 you will spend on your car.
Restoration ss really a simple process (long, but simple) You want to attack systems. Suspension, Brake, Fuel, Electrical, Engine, Tranny, Rear, Body, Interior.....Then you are done.
If you have a complete car, take lots of pictures before and during disassembly. Even things that are so simple, you can remember. I can't tell you how many things I disassembled with the expectation of reinstalling in a couple of days. A few months later, I have to try to remember how they went together. You won't forget where the fender goes, but you will forget which bolts go where.
Bag and tag everything. Develop a system for keeping track of parts. Storage boxes, shelves, whatever works for you.
BTW, if you want the Camaro Restoration Handbook, email me.

Unreal brings up excellent points. Take lots of pictures, Its true, a pictures worth a thousand words. Pictures I've taken and the great pictures the guys on this site post have saved me countless times during my resto. By the way, thanks a million everyone, I have'nt posted alot yet but I sure have learned alot of valuable info. graemlins/beers.gif As Unreal mentioned the Factory Assembly Manual is an excellent source. Page after page of illustrations. As I dissasembled my car I cleaned every bolt and nut on the wire wheel on bench grinder and then placed them in baggies or containers and labeled it. Sure has made assembly alot easier and quicker! Good luck on your project, this site has everything you need to help your resto. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
