There is a solution to this...get a converter that has been built with some efficiency in mind. Not knowing all the exact combo and power output you will have, this is still my .02. I would use a 9.5" converter, like the BTE's that I have out there with good feedback, and have it tightened up from where it would normally stall at. By going to more fin angle inside the converter, the stall speed will drop down, plus you will gain efficiency compared to a larger diameter converter with the same stall speed. I would need a bit more info, but it is pretty easy to take a normal 9.5" that would stall say at 4K and pull it clear back to nearly 3K just with fin angle changes. You will want to tailor stall speed to be right about at the torque peak of the engine when you are under boost.

I had one of the "tight" Art Carr converters in a 93 Vette. I was very nervous about running it as I didn't want a lot of slippage driving down the freeway. I was very happy with it. Stalled about 3200 rpm but was not the typical "mushy, slippery" feel you get with a cheap converter when cruising in drive/overdrive.

I have no idea of the exact specs of the particular converter you have though; they're pretty much custom units.
