I got a 1969 Z/28 and it has drum brakes and I would like disc brakes in the front of my car . I was told the complet brakes from a newer car would work like > 1970-1978 camaro or malibu. If this is true or if any one would know what cars brakes would work for me please let me know

THANK YOU JUSTIN

Justin,

You can covert the drum to disks by using the spindles and backing plates of an A body car from 1968 to 1972. That includes front disks from a Nova, Ventura, Skylark and Tempest. The brakes off a 72-78 Camaro will not fit. I would advise you to check for kits on eBay as these old take offs are not found in any sort of regularity any more. Ebay has a ton of them including new spindles whereby you can go to Bowness auto parts and buy the rest of the hardware like the rotors, calipers, and pads.

You will also need a correct booster, master cylinder, proportioning valve, distribution valve and the metering valve that goes under the frame rail on the drivers side. I know someone in Calgary that can sell you many of these parts but they are not going to be cheap as they are becoming quite rare. Did you have a budget for your brake system? Secondly, all Z/28's had power disk brakes already so is this a clone car that you are now converting to power brakes?

Thank you for your info very much it will help me out along my way! graemlins/beers.gif : I will look for the parts in calgary as these cars are always in the paper under parts for sale. The other question i had is if chevelle spindels and complet brakes will work for my car? And as for my car being a Z/28 i guess i don't know i got it on the weekend and the guy told me it was a Z /28 car.But when i bought the car it was set up as a drag car and needed every thing that he took out incuding the brakes! If i put my vin on the site would someone be able to tell me the cars history and the way the car came stock?

thanks again justin

Hey you fellow Canadian Camaro heads. Where do you get most of your parts from? I need to find some places in Canada that won't charge brokerage fees, duties..etc.. graemlins/waving.gif
