I found a 68 ragtop for sale that is stripped but rebuildable.
the touchy part is the car has no trim tag on firewall or vin # on the dash. The person does have an ownership and the vin # on the ownership matches the #'s stamped on the firewall and cowl areas. He says he knew the previous owner that did the stripping of the car but didn't know why the tags were removed. what do you think?
P.S Canadian built car so I can find out what options, colour, engine it did have.

Did the word "expert" scare everyone?

I am no expert. But if all the hidden vins match the title then it seeems ok. I know replacement cowl tags are available, but how about vin plate? If you can get enough info from GM Canada them all should fall into place. I would hope the car comes real cheap for all the trouble. Does the car look so much like a basket case that the tags were worth selling? Knowledgable Camaro folks would be able to spot the replacement tags and possibly make the car appear fake. Good luck. graemlins/waving.gif

I agree with Gary. If he has a title that matches the vin # stamped in the body your OK.

What I've got is a car that has the oppsite problem, the trim tag and VIN tag don't match the hidden VINs?

drewbird, You have a big problem. A retagged car is illegal to possess. You need to contact the previous owner and have him explain why the public vin does not match the confidential vin. The only legal solution is to have the confidential vin checked to ensure that it is not a stolen car and then have your state highway patrol inspect the car ands issue a replacement vin. The vin tag on the car is invalid.

Thewebb1.... If I go look at your car in the future with the thought of buying it and I see a assigned vin tag on it I am probably going to walk away from it unless it is something really special or a great deal. The car has less value without the orig vin tag. It does not mean it is a bad car.
