On the reverse lockout system, 69Z, manual trans of course, i'm having a problem with putting the rod end into the lever on the steering column. My linkage was missing so I purchased a used set up and am now wondering if it's even the correct rod. There is a number 5599 stamped on it. The rod end tip for the clip is smallish but there is a larger shoulder that keeps it from going into the plastic/nylon bushing in the column lever. Also, I have owned/worked on loads of 69-72 Pontiac A bodies and there is a rubber grommet with a nylon bushing in it that is used on them and it still won't work with that.

Any ideas? Is the rod even correct?

Without looking at it, I'd estimate the rod maybe of the wrong length.

Once the trans end is connected to the linkage, how far away is the column end from fitting into the column lever?

Everett#2390...it's not the rod lenght that I'm posting about, that's fine. It's the pin at the end of the rod, stamped 5599, that inserts into the lever on the bottom of the steering column that actually moves the the backup light switch and steering column collar. I apologize if I wasn't clear enough.
