I am starting a project which includes my 88 sport coupe. It has a 305 tbi w/ auto tranny. I can get my hands on the 350 and the 5-speed. I was wondering why GM never put this combo into production. I was also wondering if the t-5 would be able to handle a decent amount of horsepower of around 525-600 Hp. If anyone thinks this is a good idea or I should opt for a different tranny please let me know.
Thanks,
Dean

Chevy never put the T5 behind a 350 because it was marginal behind a 200 horse 305.
the tranny of the day right now is the Tremac 5 speed- they got a new one coming out that will handle 600 ft lbs of torque. don't know about bolting one into an 88 Camaro, tho. maybe they make one with a torque arm mount, or you could rig up a mount that bolts to the tranny crossmember or something.
another option is a Borg Warner/Tremac 6 speed like used in the 93-2002 Z/28. one of those will have torque arm provisions, but they weigh about twices as much as a 5 speed and 6th gear is really too much of an overdrive unless you want 25 mpg out of a car with 4.56 gears or something.

Dean What year and car did that "350 and 5-speed" come out of?
