I have a little trivia for you guys about 69 Z's
with a tach.Some people on this site were talking about clones and added tach's on 69 Z cars and what was real and what was added or cloned.
Here is the question.....
You have an early original 69 Z28 with a factory tach w/7000 limit,no console.What is missing and where else would the missing piece be
placed :confused: I have pics of what this is and curious if anyone on this site has ever seen this before.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you suggesting that the fuel gauge is missing?

Do you mean the center fuel guage where the clock ususlly goes ?

The tach was only available as a package. You could get it with the whole guage package (tach, clock, plus 4 console guages) or it was also available as a tach/center dash fuel gauge package.

The clock was available in the whole enchalada package OR by itself.

If you see a tach with console gauges but no clock, it is incorrect. I have seen a few of those for what ever the reason. Obviously you could not have a Tach, clock, and no console gauges. This is also incorrect (no fuel gauge?).

Tach was not a requirement in early 69 Z/28's.

I have a tougher trivia question.
In early 69, both the Z/28 and the L78 used a 6000/7000 tach. However around Jan 1, the Z/28 changed to a 6000/8000 tach, while the L78 (and L72) stayed with the 6000/7000 tach.....Why?

Yes about the fuel guage,it was where the clock would be. graemlins/thumbsup.gif I have never seen this before,I would post some pics of this car on here but dont know how to do it.This car is BEAUTIFUL.
If somebody would tell me how to post a pic on here I'm sure everyone would enjoy seeing this car.

Was the RPM changed for the option of the crossram
being available?

No it was not and the cross ram was not an option per say. It was a dealer installed item and could not be installed by the factory.

Still waiting to hear what all this trivia is about with regards to the center fuel gauge etc? My car is a U16 Optioned car and had the 8K Tach with the Center Fuel. Very few cars had this abd the qty was reported to be around 2700 cars.

The gas guage was the trivia topic.All the talk about guages on here and nobody ever mentioned that.This car is an early (no X code) NORWOOD car with spoilers,functional hood and endura front bumper.Red on Red,black stripes,with build sheet,restored 20+ years ago and looks like it was done last week.The guy has only put 42 miles on it the whole time he's had it.It even has NOS GoodYear Polyglas tires on it! He made a special trip to show me the car because of my interest in these cars,I felt very privliged :D
He doesnt even take it to shows because he's afraid of the know-it-all snobs out there that will try and pick at it,I think anyone who knitpicked on this car was probably jealous.He told me a very well known guy that is really into the cars and even makes some hard to find parts for these is the one who restored it,I forget what his name is.If someone would tell me how to post a pic you will drool.

Does functional hood mean cowl induction? Becasue then one of those know it alls, :D will tell him that there was no non X code (Norwood built) Camaros built with a cowl induction hood. The earliest known ZL2 hood is on a late December 1968 build (12E) COPO, which is after the implementation of the X codes.

Sounds like a cool car, to bad it's hidden away. 42 miles in 20 years is a crime.

The U16 option was also not available that early.

I don't know why GM made the change to an 8,000 tach. But I know why I liked them. When you couldn't bury the tach it was time to change your points! The 7,000 tach you could still bury with the 302 even with a point set starting to wear.

Car is too early to have either a center fuel gauge or cowl hood. Someone added some options...... smile.gif

I doubt anyone knows. Neither engine needs to rev to 8000 rpm and probably wouldn't do it more than once in stock form.

More rpm does not mean more power; both engines peaked at around 6500 rpm.

Gary you're probably right!

William you're also right. You don't NEED to rev them that high, but you can. In all honesty I think you do need to take them to 7000.

I've never hurt the bottom end of one, and mine saw 8,000+ often. Maybe I'm just lucky. That was a long time ago, I was young and had more money than brains back then. Besides they weren't anything but used cars in those days, nothing special, they were all over the place. It's different today.
