View Full Version : Oil leek into the antifreeze? Help!
Hartamaro95 Jun 14th, 04, 05:23 PM I have recently purchased a 1995 Camaro Z28 from a dealer. The very next day it was acting like it wasnt getting enough gas and then would not start. The mechanic said that oil leaked into the antifreeze! Is this even possible? If anyone has any suggestions on what I should do next I would very much appreciate it. Thanks-Trevor
p.s. does anyone have an LT-1 engine for sale?
DjD Jun 14th, 04, 06:25 PM Take it back to the dealer and get your money back...
DOUG G Jun 15th, 04, 02:35 AM Cracked block, head, or blown head gasket. Follow DjD's instructions ASAP. Don't know how long this has been? bearings could be gone? Best case scenario, Factory GM replacement motor.
In the state of Maryland an automobile is considered a major purchase and that means 3 days to return for refund.
Hartamaro95 Jun 15th, 04, 08:22 AM Thank you for the replies. I will contact a lawyer. Does anyone know of a good way to get a replacement motor?
DjD Jun 15th, 04, 08:43 AM Are we missing something? Have you been to the dealer? Why the lawyer? As for an LT1 the local salvage yard is your best bet...
Hartamaro95 Jun 15th, 04, 09:06 AM Sorry, yes I have been to the dealer, they say they are not resposible and will not take the car back, so I think I need to talk to a lawyer, am I mistaken? thanks again.
Brian Lewis Jun 15th, 04, 02:32 PM Actually make a big sign with white cardboard material that says DON'T BUY A LEMON FROM THESE GUYS - I DID!!!
Then just drive into the parking lot and stand there holding your sign, I am sure within an hour they will gladly take care of your issue!
You should be able to continue to picket even if they call the cops on the city sidewalk just outside the place, they won't want that publicity, maybe even call the local news station or at least threaten them that you will if they don't correct this issue immediately. Tell them every Sat/Sun you will be out there with a picket sign!
68SSCamaroinKS Jun 15th, 04, 03:02 PM If they are unwilling to address this problem you should go to the lawyer NOW! I wouldn't screw around with making the dealership look bad until you have consulted an attorney. I would do it now so they don't come back and say you screwed soemthing up.
ZZ430DropTop67RS Jun 15th, 04, 03:11 PM Most used cars over 5 years old are sold "As is", and that has to be posted on the car before it can be sold.
Was the car marked "As is"?
BillK Jun 15th, 04, 03:18 PM Trevor,
First thing you should do is get another shop to look at the car and see if they can tell you what is wrong with it. Could be something very simple, or something major. It may cost you an hour or two of labor, but I bet they will be cheaper than the attorney. Once you know what really is wrong, then figure out the best way to solve the problem.
I also am wondering if we are hearing the entire story. The GM dealers I know do not want to tarnish thier reputations and will usually do what is needed to make a customer happy, unless there are underlying circumstances we don't know about.
Just my opinion,
Hartamaro95 Jun 16th, 04, 02:40 AM I have consulted a lawyer, I am in the Military so I go through JAG with no charge. He is supposed to get back to me today. I have taken it to a GM Goodwrench and should be hearding from them today as well. Thank you for the replies, I will update the situation as it happends. -Trevor
DOUG G Jun 16th, 04, 04:55 AM Heartamaro, I see your at APG.A good question was brought up, "AS IS" or did it at least have a 30day (or more) warrentee.
I hate seeing anyone(more so a service member in our times now) being taken by a Used Car Dealer.Been down that road and learned quick what I had to do for my problem (State Police are a good source of help too).
Hartamaro95 Jun 16th, 04, 07:45 AM Yes the car was sold "as is." Thinking back now, the salesman did talk alot about how it passed inspections but that it didnt cover alot of other stuff. I got taken advantage of and I made a big mistake by buying my dream car for $4,700.
Hartamaro95 Jun 16th, 04, 07:57 AM I just called the GM shop, it is going to cost me $2500 pluss tax to fix it. Now, I can either do that, or sell it on ebay. But I love the car so I think I will put the money into it and not give my problems to someone else, unless someone wants a good Z28 6spd body. Now I just have to get another loan to fix it, wish me luck.
choptop Jun 16th, 04, 08:42 AM Fix it, keep it, have fun with it! Consider this a lesson well learned- don't trust anybody, always do your homework, have a friend and a mechanic check out any car you are looking at before you put any money down. If they will not let you have an independent inspection & analysis, walk away! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Go69 Jun 16th, 04, 08:51 AM Immediately price that job somewhere else! You should be able to get the same work done at a local reputable shop for about HALF of what the dealership is charging.
Bear in mind that dealerships are the HIGHEST prices you can possibly pay.. Try and find out exactly what is wrong with your car, and then take it to another shop to get it fixed.
You are already into the dealership for some money. If they raise your hood at a dealership-you pretty much owe them a diagnostic fee ($85 minimum and sometimes over $200). Find out what you owe them for having them look at the car then demand a list detailing exactly what they find. Tell them "no list-I don't pay!". Then get your car, and your list and go somewhere (anywhere!) else.
Hartamaro95 Jun 26th, 04, 07:18 AM Thanks for all the replies. I got the car back the other day and its running great. There is another problem I have noticed, but I will start another post for that.
