the discs are looking kinda crappy and i was already trying to clean them up but theres no way it will ever look nice again lol and im getting 5 star rims that are opened a bit more than the stock ones for the 86 ....and its going to looke retarted if they arent cleaned up ...so i was thinkin about just pulling them off and replacing them ...all 4 of them i know its like 400 for the parts smile.gif

i was looking at this page in general http://www.speedyperformanceparts.com/performance/brand.php?make=chevy&year=1986&model=camaro&partname=brake_disc&brand=powerstop

and i was wondering are these guys worth it and can i make them all discs instead of drums and discs ...unless im missing something and all of them are discs ....i havent had the back tires off yet ;) and another question for you guys is what else after it comes back running should i look into upgrading to performance parts? ...im not going to do any engine work until sometime during the summer when a engine swap will be in progress and probably a transmission rebuild or a transmission swap too ....im looking around for a 383 small block to put into it ...or any ideas from you guys since im new to the whole engine modification thing smile.gif

i wanna shoot to have my ride with around 450-500 hp easily ...so im looking for guidiance right now as to make that happen without a problem and get everything that isnt engine wise upgraded before hand.

im currently looking at new shocks/struts (i have brand new monroe shocks :/ but i dont know how good they are ive heard they are the best for their price but is there better?) and im looking to buy a real dual exhaust exhaust system since mine goes from dual to single i feel its a waste of hp ...ill probably just buy it and let it hang out around the garage until i put the new engine in it or break it in with the old one but thats all i can think of that i should upgrade, like i said i dont know to much about engine upgrades or performance part upgrades so im looking to the older guys for help since you guys are like the smartest people ive seen in a while!

It has 4-wheel disk brakes. you may wish to look into having the rotors machined as opposed to just replacing them. If there is enough material left, you might be able to get away with just machining as save some cash.

If you are serious about putting that kind of HP in a 3rd gen, you'll definately want subframe connectors installed or it will twist like a pretzel, especially if it happens to have t-roofs.

Suspension parts are bolt on for these. Several different companies make bolt on traction and sway bars that are solid, rather than the folded steel stock ones. I saw Horsepower TV put some on a '91 Firebird along with new springs and shocks and the handling of the car improved radically.

Also, your stock 225 tires won't grab very well under that much power, so you may want to look into tires. I think you can go as wide as 255 on the rear without having to change anything.

Unitl you make sure this thing is going to be a good car and not a money pit, I'd recommend just getting new rotors from Autozone or Pep Boys or Advance. You really don't need anything fancy at this stage. If the rotors on the car just look ugly but are serviceable, you can scuff the braking surface with scotchbrite, and get some caliper or drum paint to paint the hubs.

You may have rear disc brakes, as the J65 option. If it hasn't been removed, your car may have a sticker in the glove box with all the option codes. Look for J65 or look through the wheels.

As far as motor mods, do you have the TPI (LB9) or throttle body (L69) engine? I'm pretty certain you have the TPI engine, if it's a real IROC and not just a Z/28 with IROC stickers. There's a whole lot of mods, and you'd probably be best served going to a web site specifically for third-gen cars (not trying to get rid of you, just pointing out that there are other resources).

If you're shooting for that much power, you'll be looking to upgrade both the transmission and rear end.

Monroes are probably fine, especially if they are new. You'll have plenty to spend your money on.

Regarding the exhaust, don't you have to worry about emissions in Jersey? I don't keep a real close eye on what happens on that side of the river, but I'd think you have to be careful what you change. Flowmaster makes a nice system for that car, and duals or single pipe doesn't matter as much as having the correct piping size. In other words, single is fine if it's big enough.

And finally, careful with the "older guy" stuff (growl) ;)
