: Towing a 67

Hi all, After 8 months and a whole lot of stress my car will be released from paint prison on Friday. Unfortunately the car is about 400 miles north of me. I was planning on towing the car back with a rented trailer with our 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport which has a tow capacity of 5000 lbs. However, when I contacted the trailer rental company today, they informed me that the Montero Sport is "not heavy enough" to tow the Camaro with all 4 wheels off the ground. Should I disregard their warnings? The Camaro does not have the engine and trans in it yet so I'm guessing that I will be saving about 750-800 lbs. What is your advice?
Thanks in advance,
Aaron

For your protection against liability, if anything should happen, I agree with them. Get a bigger towing vehicle, or rent a flatbed.

You want a vehicle heavy enough to prevent jack-knifing and with large enough brakes to stop the total weight of tow vehicle, load, and trailer.

I think you will be ok.I tow my car all the time with no motor or trans with a v6 1500 8ft chevy.I rent a car dolly and tow.Just take your time make sure its the staps are tightand slow down hill.I even tow with the wifes explorer v6.With no motor and trans its really light but take your time.

It wouldn't scare me, the car is pretty light without the engine and tranny.
