Do you mean 01 LS1? They stopped putting LT1s in after 1997. Is this IROC stock? If so, goodbye IROC.-----Scott

sorry 98 z28 now ...the truth comes out from him ! finally lol ...his mommy and daddy bought it for him lol ....both cars are bone stock

LS1's showed up for the 98 model year. Even if it is a 98 LS1 instead of an 01 LS1, Unless the 98 driver is a klutz, this would be a bit of a mismatch... GM put a lot of umph into the LS1's and they did a good job. A stock IROC cannot run with a stock 98 Z28. If the IROC is good, you may stay close long enough to read his license plate.

i think the IROC would be about equal to a base 3.8 v6 powered 98 Camaro- the LS1 powered Z should blow the IROC away- unless it goes up in smoke or a shift is missed, that is..

you guys dont think that a manual iroc could crush a automatic 98 ls1?

we will see who laughs last smile.gif when the time comes and im pushing 600 horses to the wheels muhahaha ...then this kid is done lol

If you have a manual tranny, I'm also assuming you have the 5.0 liter since I think that was the only way to get a stick. The 305 was rated around 225 hp and the 98 ls1 is rated around 305hp. His car will run high 13s while the iroc will probably run a high 14's maybe low 15's. Motor trend had the 5.7 liter Irocs running mid to high 14's bone stock.

If you are pushing 600 hp, then you are not driving a stock IROC. With enough money invested, you can probably make anything run fast ... Don't make outrunning this other kid your primary goal as a car hobbyist ... Cars are like old west gunslingers ... No matter how good you are, you will eventually run into someone faster ... Be safe and have fun ... and forgive me if I sound like a dad ... I am

hehe no this is just one of those obstacles that think they are so cool and better than everyone else because they own something their parents bought them! ahh i hate kids like that my goal for this camaro is to have it with 600-750 hp unless i decide to go more with more money smile.gif

The stock 98 Z28 will destroy your stock '86 Iroc, no question about it. BUT, once you start doing your own work on your car you'll have some real bragging rights. I drive a Honda Shadow motorcycle that I hand-built from the ground up myself. All the Harley riders bug me because I sit on a Honda, but they shut their traps right quick when I remind them that they BOUGHT their bikes, I BUILT mine! SWame will go for your Iroc once you jazz it up a bit.

ok, so you throw $10k at you car to make it go faster- he throws $5k at his car and goes faster than you.
so what if his car is faster than yours? big deal- you are building yours, his was purchased for him.
but don't let this kind of person get you going- it just aint worth it. just smile and admit to him that his car is faster, but at least you have a little bit of dignity and will know your car inside and out by the time you are done with it.
and in this hobby, there is ALWAYS a faster car out there.

Dec 4th, 04, 03:38 PM
ya you guys are right its all about if you know your car inside and out not ...if mommy and lend you the money to buy you a in dash cd player! lol

I have about 10k in mods i wanna do ...but my 10k in mods would crush his car especially because this kid is completely stupid to cars ...he can just read websites ahhh i cant wait till im older and dont have the little kids to deal with

if this "kid" is bragging up his car so much and just needs to show off how much faster and better his car is than everyone else's, then he should not have a car like that.
that LS1 and other drivetrain parts will end up between the fenders of an older Camaro or Chevelle or something within a year because the car will almost certainly get wrecked. let's just hope he doesn't take out a few innocent people in the process.
and if YOU are getting so worked up and feel like you and your car have so much to prove, odds are pretty good that you and your car will have the same fate.
so just mellow out and don't be an idiot like the other "kid" is.

I think the best thing you could do is to tell this kid he's right. His car will beat yours and it should. His car has 12 years of technology over your car. Once you admit that, it will take all the fun out of his talking smack. Then in front of all everyone ask him again where he got the money to pay for the car. On a side note I think the Iroc looks better than the 98 camaro.

JMO...A true sign of not being a "kid" is knowing what you have or what you can do. But you don't feel the need to brag about it and risk your car and your life to prove it.
If you have to prove it please do it on the track as my wife and children are on the roads.

However...a little friendly ribbing is always fun. This just seems like it's gone beyond that.

Also what does it matter how he got his car (parents or other wise. If he has a love of cars, as we do, isn't that all that matters...No my parents did not buy my cars. I wish they did.

Again this is just my opinion.

Good point 69Red. It really shouldn't matter where the car came from. I personally feel more pride when I work on/buy my own cars. I would rather earn something than take it as charity. Nothing wrong with having something given to you if your parents have the means, but it just seems to mean more when you buy it yourself. Kind of like when you first move out on your own.

I agree DenRS. It does mean more if you earn it (providing it's not something sentimental given to you).

I find I do appreciate things more the older I get. I am a old man of 39...

I have always had the attitude where it is alright to have something given to you, but once in your possession, at least have the couth to learn and understand your newly acquired piece. This can go for art, for example. if someone gives you an original Picasso, you should at least know what you have and do some searching. The same goes for cars. If someone gives you a Camaro, it should be common courtesy to dig into the history of the car, get the facts, and proudly brandish your ride. Imagine somebody who gets a new tool and brags about it, yet when someone asks "so what does it do? Where will you use it?" the owner of the tool replies, "erm, well, I am not entirely sure, I don't know anything about it other than that it is apparently cool!".

Couldn't have said it better myself, as a Dad, Thank you, sdtsdt

As others have said, Know what you have, and know your limits.

My advice: Don't be intimidated, but don't intimidate, you'll gain the respect.

You'll definitely feel proud building your own and learning from your mistakes. How else would you learn?

Use your head, gain respect. You will be liked.

Please read these messages again - take it to the track, there is far too much risk to others and yourself on public roads. It is not cool or smart. I did it as a kid, got a dangerous driving conviction and that has followed me my entire life. Dont do it.

My girlfriend drives a 2003 Grand Am GT. The thing really moves, but it is nothing compared to even an early 3rd gen Camaro 305. My '83 smokes her car in a heads up race, but she is a decent bracket racer and her fuel injection gives her good reaction time; better than me usually. She has been known to pull the odd win too, heheh. We can't find any performance chip for her car though, which is kinda heinous, because I am sure the car could be woken up a bit. The track can be really fun if you have a bunch of friends there!

i know of some people that can make chips and stuff ...but it costs $$$$ ...but im not saying grand ams suck ... im actaully trying to get this girl to make her grand am better than what it is

Now the GTP is a car and a half man, I drove one that belongs to a friend when she was drunk and I was allowed to tromp on it a bit. Holy did that car move! Perhaps the Grand Am is like the GTP in that you need to hook up a computer. I see guys at the track with setups like that, but it's do deep for this old fart, heh.
