I have a '69 Z28 that is console delete. The dash has a fuel guage in the center where the clock normally is and it has an 8k tach. I have been told this is very rare. Can anyone confirm that?

It's not "rare', its "race".

The console was an extra cost option, no such thing as "console delete". The center fuel gauge is a fairly rare option though with 1410 cars getting it during the 69 model year.

When I bought the car it had a console in it but no gauges. I was told the console was added at some point. I had planned to add the gauges and replace the fuel gauge with a clock. not sure I should do that.

Gauges were another extra cost option that was not rquired to be ordered with the Z28 package until after April of 69. At that time you had to either order the guages (Oil Pressure, Amps, Fuel,Water Temp, Tach and Clock) which required the console to be ordered, or if you didn't order a console you got the tach with the center fuel gauge.

I think that if you ordered a console in a Z28 after April you got the default console mounted gauges and tach, not the setup you have, so the console is probably not technically correct in your case.

My Z/28 originally came that way too, no console and a center fuel gauge. It was kind of neat because you don't see many that way. But I added a console with gauges and the center clock because I like the look. It's an X77 car and I added style trim to it too. So it's not a 100% correct car, but it has what I like.

I keep telling myself I will sell the fuel gauge someday as they are worth some bucks, but for some reason I can't seem to part with it. I guess I am just a parts hoarder.

My car is a 5th week May. I may install the console with gauges.

Hi,
Our 1969 Z-28 is a really bare bone car. Built on 12C, it has the X-77 code. It does not have a tach, clock or console. It also has the short factory spoiler. I haven't seen any other car with this set up. I would like to know if any one else has seen or heard of this setup. Thanks.

I have the same set up in my Garnet Red Z . It is a 09E X77D80 car and it has a 8K tach with the fuel guage in the center and obviously no console. I never knew this configuration was rare but then everyday I seem to learn something new about these cars.

-Marc Marc,
I sold a cherry original Rosewood steering wheel and a speedminder speedometer a couple of years ago to help pay for my 302 rebuild. Been regretting it ever since. graemlins/clonk.gif .......
