View Full Version : GM NEEDS TO BRING BACK CAMARO OR BUST!
mark67ss Mar 17th, 05, 02:49 AM Headline ripped from the finance section of Yahoo.
"General Motors Cuts 1Q, Full Year Earnings Projections; Shares Fall to Lowest Level in a Year" GM stock fell to lowest level since 1992!!!
Think its time to bring back the CAMARO general?
I think so
buds396 Mar 17th, 05, 03:18 AM I think it is time GM wakes up peroid. They don't have a clue as to what is going on in the auto world. Chevy Div. is really at a loss.
They need to shed the ego and get back to work. The 5th Gen Camaro would help, but it goes deeper than that.

wayner Mar 17th, 05, 04:14 AM I hope the General brings back the Camaro. But it better not be some front wheel drive eco scooter or modified Cavalier, But a true stylish rear wheel drive car with the new 400 hp LS6, like used in the new Goats (GTO)
MStennes Mar 17th, 05, 04:23 AM At this point any high performance rear wheel drive from Chevy would be nice, if you want performance rear wheel drive you have ,the GTO or Corvette no wonder the Mustang is so popular its abut load less cash and fast to boot, a little cash and a few parts and away we go. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
jackr Mar 17th, 05, 05:18 AM One model will not bring the corporate bottom line up. A series of "wins" like Chrysler and Ford have done in the last few years will certainly move the situation in the right direction. And....tried shopping for a new (GM) car lately? That is not a pleasant experience.
novaderrik Mar 17th, 05, 09:35 AM everybody keeps saying how popular and awesome the newer Mustangs are- well, i've only seen one '05 Mustang on the road- and that was parked at Wal-Mart with dealer plates- and the Ford lots around here all seem to be overflowing with brand new '04's that they are trying to sell with really DEEP discounts. in town here, the dealer has a loaded Mustang V6 convertible with 30 miles on it down to $13k, and a GT for something like $16.
all the Dodge dealers have new Magnums and 300's sitting there- but i've only seen a few of them out driving around. so, from what i'm seeing around here at least, the new stuff isn't helping the big 3's bottom lines as much as they would like the shareholders to believe.
but that could just be a local thing, i guess. but i do live in one of the faster growing counties in the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area with some of the fastest rising average income in the area- so if anyone was gonna be buying the awesome new stuff, it would be people around here. Dog knows they've been buying up new trucks for the last 5 years. everywhere you look around here, people are trying to unload those same new trucks they bought over the last few years- and not having a lot of luck- and i'm not seeing a lot of new anything on the roads.
i don't think a new pony car will help any company now that no one can afford new cars and the insurance and gas it takes to keep them on the road.
deny 411 Mar 17th, 05, 06:12 PM Chevy needs help I just got a 2002 Blazer. This thing is over engineered to the point of being stupid. My driver side door was not quite shut the other day.I had to stop the thing put it in park just to shut the door.
sandiegoz28 Mar 17th, 05, 06:48 PM Just read that Ford plans on building 192,000 '05 Mustangs, due to surging demand...just like '64! GM should respond.
no69x-44 Mar 17th, 05, 08:32 PM Whatever happened to this? Maybe 2007? I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Reto ... but yet still 5th Gen. I think it would give the Mustang a run ... but again GM is behind the 8 Ball:

My buddy owns a Ford dealership....says the GT's are selling faster than can be made, reason being they are very affordable for a new car. It's a real sharp looking car for the price. Not sure if I would ever buy one, but I think Ford is spot on with this one.

Everyone seems to have one. Cool looking cars, but the commercials with Steve Mcqueen were/are the best thing about the new Mustangs, imo. Seems like every one I see has a middle aged woman on a cell phone driving it.
GM, please do not mass produce a "new" Camaro. Just start stamping out repro parts for our First Gens that actually fit.
RS3SDL2MG Mar 18th, 05, 03:53 AM I don't think they should drag the camaro name thru the mud like they have in the past and like they are doing with the GTO name , I hate that 1970 came and went just as much as anyone else I think about it everyday but let's face it all the camaro's that we have in the world are what we have let's just fix them up and enjoy them not put camaro name badge's on a space ship like pictured above :D
Buck Mar 18th, 05, 04:49 AM If they release a new Camaro, do you think it is going to look like the 1st gens.... NO!!! The above proposed Camaro looks pretty good. IMO.
restoman Mar 18th, 05, 08:06 AM My job is to sell products to new car dealers. As a result I have seen quite a few new Mustangs. I hate to say it, but Ford has hit a HOME RUN with this car. If I had room in my garage, I would be looking for an 05 GT right now. I feel that we will see a re-birth of impulse buying when the people start to see these cars up close. The aftermarket has already designed tons of parts for these cars. GM where are you now???? the Mustang got you again, just like in 1964.
novaderrik Mar 18th, 05, 08:15 AM i simply cannot understand why everyone hates the GTO so much.
bland styling?
well, the original 64 GTO was a pretty bland car. over the course of the 60's, it got all "blinged up"- and the 70 Judge- come on- what, exactly, did the stripes and spoiler do to make it any faster? yeah, it looks cool and all, but really- what did all that crap do but attract attention?
it's not slow- i'd call a factory built, fully warranted, 5 passenger, 25 mpg car that runs 13's in the 1/4 mile without breaking a sweat pretty damn impressive. so it looks like a Grand Prix- well, those cars actually sell.
and they are definitely not overpriced when you consider that 4 years ago, most of the 02 Z28's that rolled off dealer lots were in the $30-$35k range. because of all the whining from the "purists" out there, you can actually get a pretty good deal on a new GTO after the dealers decide to sell them for a little over invoice just to make room on the lot for more cars that actually sell- like, oh, a Grand Prix, maybe.
I say they should NEVER EVER bring back the Camaro- because if they did, all we'd hear about around here is how overpriced and slow and ugly it is- you know, the usual sour grapes deal where if you can't afford it, you-wouldn't-own-it-even-if-you-could type of thing.
shoddy_F-body Mar 18th, 05, 08:30 AM Bring it back why? Like they brought back the Nova?Like they brought back the Malibu? Camaro is just a name. It doesn't guarantee a good car. If they made a new car that can compete with the new mustang and priced it right they could call it a The Daisy and it would sell. BTW everyones crying about bringing back the camaro, What about the Trans Am? Pontiac kicked Chevy's butt in the styling category since the second gens. smile.gif

You nailed it...it looks cool and attracts attention. Start with that basic concept and add in some performance, and you have a winner.
Drive your first generation Camaro through any dealership lot,(any brand) and IT will draw more looks than anything on the lot, including the new Ford Escorts, err, I mean Mustangs.
There is an old saying that says, "You can't go home again."
DOUG G Mar 18th, 05, 11:04 AM I'll be car payment free very soon and I want a new "sports/Pony" car. If GM could build a Camaro like Kris Hortons pics,I'm in !

You can't just stick emblems on a box, call it a Malibu or Nova or even a Camaro and expect folks to flock and buy it. Re-cycling the same old cars and dressing them (ie. The GTO - looks like a 2 door Grand-Am, IMO) and expect people to go ga-ga over it, is not gonna get it either. BUT, if Chevy/GM was to stap on the big set and come up with something orginal like the PICS that I posted on page one of this post ... and it performed ... Yes, I bet you people would buy them.

BudW Mar 19th, 05, 06:12 PM I would be kicking in the dealers door to buy the camaro pictured above.
The Camaro will never be brought back. Chevy wants you to buy an SS Cobalt. As I said before Chevy is too busy making retro overpriced pick-ups. They are so out of touch that they probably think you all want a retro version of a '73 Kammback Vega. How about a Spider Monza. It has a V8 and rear drive. Can't wait to see the new Chevette. One thing I gotta give Chevrolet is the new '06 'Vette 6 speed is super nice to drive and if some people can get over the styling, the current GTO 6 speed is one hell of a car.

jet_car2000 Mar 21st, 05, 04:33 AM If they built that car posted on the 1st page of this thread by Novaderik,, Myself I think it would be a BIG seller ,,Not only to those of that LOVE 1st gen's ,,But i think it would catch the eyes of the younger genarations(the tuners). That grill and body lines looks great too me ,,I would buy one like that if GM would get off there butts and build it,,502 EFI,6-speed,4 wheel independent suspension and 4 wheel ABS disc brakes, all power with leather,,ok just dreaming,, Frank
wayner Mar 21st, 05, 07:51 AM I don't think its ever coming back after reading this!

WOW- I just received the new Chevy High Performance today. Looks like they're really enjoying the new Cobalt. I guess its not the end of the world for us Chevy fans. Anyway! The article is pretty depressing.

JohnZ Mar 22nd, 05, 03:28 PM Just to cap it off, GM announced today that it has shut down its future rear-wheel-drive programs to focus on trucks and SUV's.
