i heard it was possible to bypass the computer control on a newer model hei distributor. does anyone know how this is done??? i would like to save myself the cost of another body if possible.

Ok lets think about this.. You want to bypass the internal timing control unit.. What will you do for advance? Your car "might" run, but you won't have any advance.. Is that what you are wanting? I can only think of two reasons you would want to do this:
1. You are going to use it in a racing situation where you can lock-in your timing at a set point and don't need vacuum, or centrifugal advance.
2. You have a stand alone ignition box that will handle advance/retard of the engine timing outside of the distributor.

If you don't fall into one of these two categories, get the right distributor-an early model unit with the vacuum advance cannister and be done with it.
