Can anyone tell me what their experiences have been like purchasing from www.gmpartsdirect.com? (http://www.gmpartsdirect.com?) I was looking at their Aluminum Fin Valve Covers and they appear to be a great price, but don't know if they are the same that Year One, Rick's First Generation, Classic Industries, etc., would carry? Just curious about the Quality, etc. I know they are a registered dealer with GM... but not sure if these aluminum valve covers are all coming from a single restoration manufacturer....

I don't have any experience with the valve covers but have ordered from them in the past. They have the same parts as any other GM dealer and the parts are genuine GM. The prices seem great until you factor in their shipping and handling costs. It may be better for you since you are a lot closer but for me it was just about the same as buying them for normal retail.

I agree with King, the shipping is very high. I've ordered from them several times and not had any problem. I compared their price with the local GM dealership here. I get the "body shop" discount at the parts counter and I checked on one item to compare cost. I ordered the seal for the air cleaner to hood on my Z/28 and found that the order through gmpartsdirect, was about $2 cheaper then over the counter, and that included shipping. The seal is the only part I checked.

I have used them several times, and you definately need to factor in their shipping and handling fees, which can be significant. The parts are genuine GM, which to me makes it worth paying the higher S&H fees, and it is still cheaper than getting the parts through a local dealer (Just my experience).

It would be nice if it had a better catalog. I've made an arrangement with my local GM dealer to get parts for the same price, just so they can have the sales. Shipping for them, or any business, is a tax-deduction.

i've used them too on several occasions. shipping is very high.

i wish they had more pics though. you have to know what you're looking for by part number. 1/2 the NOS stuff on ebay is from them i'm sure. i laugh when i see the ebay prices.

i like your thinking everett#2390.

just received my GM gas tank from them today. $40 shipping and a nice palm sized dent graemlins/angry.gif . haven't looked at it long enough yet to see if it's fixable. might be an NOS gas tank on ebay here shortly.

Another place to consider is www.partszoneonline.com (http://www.partszoneonline.com) The website is P&G Chevrolet in Slovan, Pennsylvania. This is a dealership which is local to where I grew up. On their webpage, just enter in the part numbers and bring up the prices. Their prices a slightly higher than gmpartsdirect.com however P&G Chevrolet charges actual shipping and won't kill you on shipping. The parts manager's name is Bill, he is very good at his job and is willing to look up parts for these old cars and track them down if they are still availible. I jsut place an order today actually.

If you call, let them know that Bryan Shook referred you, they are good people and like I said, their prices are slightly more than gmpartsdirect.com however they may still be cheaper than your local dealership even after you factor shipping.

GMPartsDirect.com is a Chevy dealer - Flow Chevrolet, I believe in North Carolina. They sell at jobber or below, and make their margin on shipping. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
