Ok, now here's a good one.....

I re-installed the correct-original stamped steel valve covers on my engine (the "correctness fever" hit me again)...

Now....I have the "USA-1 Built by Tonowanda Team" rectangular chrome sticker that is supposedly placed on the passenger-side valve cover.

I've seen these on other small block engines on various restorations, but I was told that this particular sticker was never applied on '69 vehicles...

Does that sound right????

The Tonawanda built engines did use the sticker in 69---at least the b/b did.
On that subject, I know all the b/b came from Tonawanda, but what other motors were cast/built there?

Almost all of the V8's were cast at Tonowanda except the 302. Far more of the L48s came from Tonowanda than from Flint.

Mark, Were they all built where they were cast, or could a block be cast in Tonawanda, and built in Flint?

Tonowanda cast blocks were assmbled in Tonowanda, Flint cast blocks were assembled in Flint. Tonowanda blocks are different than than Flint blocks so they are easy to tell apart.

All Flint cast blocks have a square headed oil gallery plug in the top left area (about 11 oclock position) of the timing chain boss on the front of the block. Tonowanda blocks do not have this plug.
