67 Prostreet Feb 15th, 04, 05:04 PM Looking for several opinions and some information!
Have a chance to pickup a 67 LeMans for $600.00 that's in resonable shape as far as the body goes. It's missing the motor and trans but seems like a pretty good deal?
Only thing is there's not title for the car, however the person that's arranged the sale has a friend in law inforcement and they ran the vin's on all the various vehicles and none came back stolen.
Second question is has anybody heard how much heartburn someone has to go through to get a title in a situation like this?
Much appreciate the info
Tom
stevo camaro Feb 15th, 04, 05:35 PM I say buy it. Sounds like a good deal.
Not sure about Colorado, but in Cal. after 7 years vehicles disappear from the DMV computers.
You have to have a Highway Patrolman come & verify the vin # then take the info to get a lost title. Now, if the last registered owner is known, here anyway, you have to send a certified letter to the person. If nothing comes back, (and usually it never does) the cars yours. If the person is there & responds, I have no idea what you do. That part has never happened to me. smile.gif
That's all I can add except to say, buy the LeMans. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
MrDanB Feb 15th, 04, 05:49 PM Here in Wa.state...You simply hop down to the DMV and have them run the vin, and apply for a lost title. It's a little work, but WELL worth in IMHO for a car like that one sounds for 600 bones! The most important thing to do is make sure it's not stolen. If you buy it and it WAS stolen, then guess what...you will be in posession of stolen property, and that will be a much bigger headache than making a phone call down to the local DMV. Another route would be to look up your local RCC laws (revised code of Colorado) it's essentially the set of laws for your state, additionally, it's a usefull tool in finding loopholes to get out of minor traffic infractions, umm not that I have or anything ;)
Good luck-Dan B

Buy it! I see the cars future! ;)
67 Prostreet Feb 19th, 04, 05:07 AM Well I went and got it... It's now sitting in the garage next to the vert
All I have to do now is get the tittle work straightened out!
Called a former co worker who's into early GTO's and Le Mans and guess what he just bought two car to make one and has most of the stuff I'm missing. So now I have to split the time between the two cars and try to finish the vert by Summertime. Yeah right
Thanks again guy's I'll post some pics soon

camaroman7d Feb 19th, 04, 05:35 AM Let us know how the title thing goes. I just bought a 71 Nove that is in Colorado with no title. I had a "connection" run the VIN number and it came back clean so I bought it. It is sitting in a friend of mines garage in the Denver area.
I have bought cars without a title before, and usually as long as they are not stolen and you have (or make :D ) a bill of sale you are good to go. As Stevo mentioned after a given amount of time (I thought it was 10 years, but he might be right in that it is 7) they are no longer in the system (here in Calif.) I never had a problem before. It would be interesting to see how it goes for you maybe I will register in in Colorado and then transfer it when I get it here.

67 Prostreet Feb 20th, 04, 05:00 AM camaroman7d,
I went to the DMV yesterday and picked up a packet that you need to fill out to request a "Bond for Title" there a several steps that you have to go through to complete the process, however it doesn't seem all that bad.
1.) VIN and Title search.
2.) VIN verification (Local State Patrol Office)
3.) Dealer Appraisal (Local Car Dealer)
4.) Apply for a bond for twice the amount of the appraisal
5.) Recieve a new Title from the State
This means that I will have to drag the car to several places on a trailer, but that doesn't seem like to much of a bother to make this car legally mine! I have a spare packet if you'd like on sent to you. email me with the details if you want me to send you one.
Thanks,
Tom
camaroman7d Feb 20th, 04, 07:17 AM Tom,
That is good info.. For once it looks like something might actually be easier in California. Here you just have to verify the VIN and that it's not stolen. After that you get your title. No need for appraisal. I think I might be better off dragging it home and applying here, that way I won't have to pay the transfer fees. Thanks for the offer I really appreciate that. If things change I will get in touch with you and take you up on it.
Thanks
