I came across another question for everyone. I found an air cleaner base at a swapmeet which I thought I was going to use for my car (68Z). After setting it on the carb I noticed a couple of things. The outlet tube to go to the valve cover was bigger that the metal tube coming out of the valve cover. Also the tube coming out of the air cleaner comes out at a different angle. My friend has also bought a couple air cleaner bases and they are different as well. Can anyone tell me what I am looking for? I didn't know they had that many different original air cleaner bases. The air cleaner base on my original 68Z is just as you describe. There is a molded, bent, rubber hose with two different sizes on each end, which connects the metal tube in the valve cover to that of the air cleaner base.

The metal tube coming out of the base, is it pointing more toward the rear of the valve cover tube or in front of it? I have two different ones. Thanks for the response.

It's almost perpindicular to the valve cover, but does bend slightly toward the rear.
