I have a 69 z/28 and have noticed on several other cars that the hood latch mechanism is a silver-gray color. My latch is black. Which is correct and if it should be silver-gray, what paint is used or what kind of plating? Thanks alot for any info.

Zinc phosphate is the correct finish. It is light to dark grey in color. The hood catch is also zinc phosphate. The spring is semi-gloss black. Zinc phosphate is a poor finish for rust resistance. I believe that the resto parts stores sell look-a-like paints for plating. Hope this helps.

I had my local body shop powder coat these parts grey. The finish looks great and will last. It doesn't cost too much for such small items.
