Hello all, on my 68 it appears that at one time there was additional material cut just behind the transmission hole, about 3 inches, the extend the hole back. I read on another post that 69 Z-28's had this hole cut with a torch from the factory. Could someone give me some information as to why this may have been done on my car? The trans that came with my car was a mid sixties so was not the original.

Was it necessary to cutout this hole to run a different transmission? Just to note, my car originally had a manual and that is what it was replaced with.

Some aftermarket shifters (vertical gate, super) required floor modification. Also some guys ran Mopar 4-speeds in those days.

For '69 the hole was most likely made via plasma cutter used with a template.
