I recently found a 4053 carb on ebay that is the correct date code for my z28. Carb on ebay. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33550&item=7919959764&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW) I posted a question a while back on what the normal difference is between the camaro's build date and the carb's build date, which got a little heated ( Old topic (http://www.camaros.net/forum/ultimatebb.php/topic/6/4855.html#000003) ). In that thread, hugger_sixty_nine suggested sending it to Custom Rebuilt Carbs (http://www.customrebuiltcarbs.com/) . This will probably be my course of action if we do purchase the carb. What do you guys think. Good or bad deal? $400 doesn't seem to bad for a 4053 core does it?

Many thanks

Sam

Sam,

Sorry about that last post getting away from topic. A core DZ carb for 400.00 is a bit high but thats where these parts are all going now days. I'd say 300.00 is a better deal and those deals are still around if you are patient. Biggest thing is the fact that you want a date preceeding your car. That is sometimes worth lots to someone who needs it. I know....I just bought a used Rosewood Dash for 500+ just because I needed it for a car. Value is actually what someone else is willing to pay for it right.

Hope you get your carb.

Sam,
If it's the right date for your car I'd say go for it. I paid $432.00 for one about a year ago and was very happy to get it. It was a 912 date. Seems the Dec. through March dates are harder to find. I then had it restored by Jeff at dated components as I stated in the first thread. I wouldn't even think about using anyone else. The carb came back mint, absolutley perfect in every way.
Make sure the core you are considering has all original parts, metering blocks, linkage base, etc. If not and you are looking for 100% correct you'll be hunting parts again.
Good luck!!
Doug
