for a new guy, this site has been really helpful. Typically I can find just about anything I am looking for and can always learn something when looking around at the posts. My question is if there is a good trick to "stiffen" up the exterior mirrors on my '68. They have been replaced but the pivot point works too good. When I get up to speed the wind "re-adjusts" them, mostly pointing toward the ground. Is there some way to make them harder to adjust without ruining them? Thanks in advance for the advice.

You might try a couple of drops of locktight after you get it set where you want it.

I would guess that would work, but I wasn't wanting to loose movement all together.

I think the locktite will still allow some movement. I'd try to break it loose before it sets up rock-hard. Then it will act like a shim

You could try staking the bottom with a small center punch, but then you take the chance of cracking the pot metal. Another possibility would be to drill and tap for a small allen head set screw.
