When I was 18 I owned a 74 z28 4 speed car that I just loved. I have just come across a chance to buy another one.

The car i'm looking at is an automatic car with 3.42 limited slip rear with A/C and rear defogger. The car looks like it will need lower quarter patches if not full quarters but other than that the sheet metal is pretty solid. It's a good running car that appears to be complete.

Can anyone give me some ideas what to look for to verify authenticity of this car? What are key things to look for to make sure all the major original parts are there?

Owner claims that it has the original drive line in it but I'm not sure how to tell.

Any advice?

It's all in the VIN. The nice thing about 1974 Z/28's is that the VIN number will tell you if it is a real Zee or not. Please post it here and we can tell you.

I think another way to tell is if the accelerator pedal itself is attached to the floor, and not just hanging on the accelerator rod.
I know '73 Z's can be distinguished that way. Not sure about '74's.
Am I right Hylton?

No, by '72 they'd stopped with the special gas pedal. But by then it's clearly in the vin the letter "T" (and trim tag: Z28) so no guesswork.

Indications? Check to see if that 3.42 is an original rear, Auto should be TH400, and it's an L82 350...

How many guys have you heard getting scammed on 72 to 74 Z/28's? ZERO! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
