View Full Version : 69 Z28 incorrect color
harris48cars Dec 21st, 04, 02:09 PM I have a very nice numbers matching 69 Z28. It is Fathom Green. I may want to paint it next year but I like the Rally green. How badly does this hurt the value of the car if I decide to change colors?
Thanks,
Gary
Unreal Dec 21st, 04, 02:28 PM Only to the extent of the cost of painting it the correct color. Study the Fathom Green cars......the color may grow on you. It did for me!
Indy Z11 Dec 21st, 04, 02:55 PM If the rest of the car is correct, it will definitely hurt the value some, especially in these days of the "numbers matching" craze. You could look at it like this. If you are keeping the car for a long time, paint it the color you want. If you plan to sell it in the next couple years, paint it the correct color.

Ralley or Fathom...I like Fathom (sorry John) guess which one is mine? :D graemlins/thumbsup.gif ...Hope this helps...Mike
Buck Dec 22nd, 04, 05:01 AM I like the Fathom Green better as well smile.gif
Sully Dec 22nd, 04, 05:47 AM When I bought my Camaro Fathom Green
was not my favorite color. It doesn't
show that well in photos but if done
right it really looks great. Remember
with the Z's the white stripes help
break it up. It is now one of my favorite
colors.

sandiegoz28 Dec 22nd, 04, 07:01 AM Hands down - if your car is originally Fathom Green I'd stay with it over Rallye Green (no offense to Rallye Green owners - I appreciate that color as well.) But Fathom Green, done right with white stripes just has that classic muscle car look.
Fathom Green is a lot like a black paint job, and maybe a little more difficult to apply, due to the metalic flake,(took me 2 tries to get the Chevelle right).
So, done right means the body needs to be really straight, the paint very evenly applied (metalic flake consistent/no tiger stripes) and the paint color-sanded to minimize orange peel. Polish out all the swirls, and it just stands out.
The net result is very deep and rich. At dusk/night, almost looks black. And as pointed out, white stripes, RWL tires, and good chrome really accents the overall look.
Good luck deciding!

Pacecarjeff Dec 22nd, 04, 10:03 AM Painting it the correct color will make it attractive to many more people while you have it, and easier to sell when you want to. If you are painting the wrong color why would anyone choose green. (sorry green lovers.)
With the Corvettes, if a car is the wrong color, it's value is decreased by the cost of a new paint job. If you like the other color, sell yours and find the color you like.
Why spend all that money to do something not correct? It would be just like cutting a hole in your hood, and adding a tunnel ram dual quad setup, and drilling for curb-feelers except those would be easier to repair than the wrong paint.
Just my opinion.

Hans I appreciate all the replys. But this one in particular sounds good. I have a picture in a Mucle Car book that shows a Fathom Green car and it is stunning. If I could get the person that painted that car to paint mine, it would be a done deal. In the end though I probably will stick with the Fathom anyway.

Unreal Dec 23rd, 04, 11:36 AM My Yenko tribute car is Fathom and will get black stripes. Sounds terrible, but I saw a real one at the first Yenko reunion, and could not take my eyes off it. Gives it that real mean sleeper look.
