I am going to upgrade my radio.
Although my build sheet states: AM pushbutton,
I want to install an original AM/FM, and set my AM aside.
My questions:
A) Was there more than one AM/FM choice in 1967?
I want to get a pushbutton model, and I was going to replace the single large dash speaker with 2 small cones. I am not going to add any speakers anywhere else.
B) I hear that someone is retrofitting original AM radios with a FM reciever. - is this an affordable option? (I would find another AM pushbutton and modify that one.)
C) Where might I be able to find an original AM/FM radio that is working, or already restored?
D) For a real nice one, what should I expect to pay?

Jeff,I don't know if your old enough to remember fm converters but they are about 3" by 6" and have a red power wire a blk ground wire and a socket for antenna. You set your AM radio to a certain station and then you can tune in FM stations.Works well and can be hidden well keeping a stock look.I have one in my 67 glove box.If you are interested I can rummage through mypapers and give you name of supplier.Paul

Thanks Paul.
Actually what I have been using is this:
11 years ago,(at my wifes request) I installed a AM/FM/CD player in the Glove box. I removed the original liner, cut a hole in the repro one, and installed the player - that has been working fine.
It has been anoying for me to open the glove box everytime I want to lower the volume, or change the station. Not to mention that each time I drive the car, (not very often) I need to reset the pre-sets, after having the battery disconnected.
So, I finally deceided to do it right, and get rid of the mess in the glove box, and go to a completly authentic application.
I really should have done this years ago, while the prices were still reasonable.
So this is where I am now...
Where can I find an original radio, and how much should I expect to pay?
Someone offered a restored one to me for $750. That seems very high, but I haven't been watching the market, so that price could be right, I don't know?
I am looking for some advise.
Thanks,
Jeff

That price is about right for an AM/FM. They have actually benn going for around $600 to 900 on Ebay. An AM radio can be had for around $75 to 125. Of course this was also on Ebay.

Here is an AM/FM listed for under $400. Not sure if it is for a Camaro.

I had my 67 push button reworked to an am/fm by a fellow named Dave in (I believe) West Virginia. Met him at Carlyle, did a great job at a reasonable price. Still looks original except for a tiny light in the middle of the face plate.
