I have a pair of NOS roof rail weatherstrips for 68-69 model coupes. I purchsed them n 1978, knowing that one day my car would need new rubber. They are still perfect and have been hanging indoors in a closet for years, never exposed to the elements. I am toying with the idea of selling them, just because the prices on some of these NOS parts are getting so ridiculous. Last pair I saw went for over $1200 and that was a couple of years ago.
My car is apart right now, but one of these days I will put it back together. Has anyone had experience with the NOS GM parts and the best available aftermarket? Is there really that much of a difference from a functional point of view? I don't expect my car will ever be judged (if I ever put it together), so any very subtle differences are probably not that important to me, unless quite obvious. However, if the aftermarket ones are going to result in air leaks, water leaks, and having to slam the door, I will just keep my GM pieces.
Any thoughts? Will I regret it if I sell them?

I also noticed the prices on those on E-bay. I have installed several Soft Seal door weather strip and roof rail strip and love it. They fit just fine. I would say if you are not going to build a Judged show car sell that gold to someone needing it.

Thanks for the input. Anyone else? Specifically, has anyone compared the NOS against any of the aftermarket ones side by side?
Anyone know if the judges at Nationals even look for NOS, original vs aftermarket?
Thanks,
Lynn

They aren't close to being the same and they sure aren't close at fitting the same. I help with the judging for the heart beat class at the camaro Nat. in Carlisle. It won't be a problem in that class but for the top class you will loose points.. And yes the judges can tell the difference. A blind man can tell the difference

I would have to agree with green z on this one. I have NOS ones on my car and the windows seal and doors shut like a dream. If you are going to keep the car, use them. If not sell them to someone who wants them or needs them. There are plenty of buyers out there and that price you mentioned has gone way up. They are hard to find and probably one of the most important pieces of weatherstrip on the car. the aftermarket pieces dont compare in my opinion.

I have one pristine original, and one aftermarket. The two sides are like night and day!!!!

I have owned the car since 1976. Not much chance I am ever going to sell it. Guess I will keep these and use them on my car. Maybe I will even put the thing back together this year.
Thanks for all your input.

Law of economics.....price is set where supply curve crosses demand curve.
You might say I thought the guys buying Yenkos 5 or 6 years ago for $75,000 were "Goof Balls". Now those cars have earned those Goof Balls an extra hundered thou, or so.
