View Full Version : 69 camaro throttle rod
z/27 camaro Jan 10th, 05, 01:45 PM does anyone know why the throttle rods are diff on the diff camaro engines? i have a 69RS/SS that origanlly comes with a quadrajet carb [as you all know im sure ]
i have put a z/28 alum intake and a z/28 780 holley vac sec carb on it with cowl induction air cleaner etc and used my stock throttle rod and everything seems to work fine. so why the differences???
thanks guys :D
Jonesy Jan 10th, 05, 05:26 PM Different mounting points on the Holley vs the Rochester and angle of the rod. Maybe your rod has been bent and formed to fit and you got lucky.
Gary L Jan 10th, 05, 06:18 PM On a Z28 the open element air cleaner is 3" tall and has to sit down over the Holley carb to fit under the hood. The throttle rod has to go down under the air cleaner then up to connect to the Holley. Not sure about the others.

thanks guys

z/27 camaro Jan 11th, 05, 09:45 PM thanks JohnZ.
does anybody know if anyone does it in canada?
how about the ball park cost?
Jonesy Jan 12th, 05, 11:43 AM I bought the valve covers. My car came with the stock metal, painted orange valve covers as did all 1969 L48's. Many dealers sold the valve covers as an add on back in the day.
I had Jerry MacNeish do my exhaust manifolds.

the alum valve covers also came as a dressup package stock.
can you give me a ball park on the cost of the reskin please?
Jonesy Jan 12th, 05, 12:48 PM The valve covers were not part of any dress up package for 69. They were standard on the Z28. All other small blocks came with steel painted valve covers. Dealers may have sold this as a dress up package like mud flaps and such but it wasnt a factory option in 69. I think it was an option in 1968 though.
I cant remember what it cost me to have the manifolds reskinned. I'm thinking about $300. Go to the site above and ask him the going rate. I was very happy with mine, not rust to ever have to deal with.

its called bright engine accents. it shows up in the "69 camaro illustrated facts, features and specification manual"
it shows a pic of a L/48 engine with the valve covers on it. it also makes reference to the accents for the 69 RS/SS camaro.
i cant find a RPO for it tho.
mind if i make a new post and see what else we can find out about it?
Gary L Jan 12th, 05, 03:33 PM It has become well-known here that some books do not have the facts correct. If William, Mark C or Kurt S can see this they will set the record straight. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
