I know that NOS items arent really show and I bought (& returned) some GM handles from the 80s, but I am looking for the creme de la creme in show quality handles...who makes 'em?

Also, any leads on an expert stainless guy in the bay/Sac area? Mine just have minor dings, but looking to go perfect.

Thanks guys...

Stupid question coming:

Coul dsomeone tell me the difference between "show quality" and factory repro's.

I saw a replacement RS grill emblem and they had two...one was original and the other said show quality.

The original door handles were thicker at the handle itself than the replacment GM or repops that are available. Best thing to do is to locate a good set of originals and have them re-chromed.Show quality items usually mean that the level of quality such as chrome and details are better than regular stock. Usually being the key word here.

I agree with Oramac68. Trim Parts makes a very nice repop....orrect thickness of handle, and quality chrome job.
I bought a set, but returned them in favor of rechroming a set of originals. I used Paul's and paid about $200. That's more than new GM replacements(which have much thinner handle than the originals) but worth it, in my opinion.

BTW, I bought a bunch of original handles, which were supposedly all from Camaro or Nova. There were at least 3 thicknesses of handles in the lot. Thickest to thinnest varied by about 1/8" as I recall. I'm really surprised that the General would produce several handles that were so similar. I'm not sure which thickness is correct for Camaro. The new GM Replacement handles are probably half the thickness of the originals.

If you decide to rechrome, and need a good set of cores, email me.

Unreal,

Can you send me or post Paul's contact info? I'd like to get my door handles and some other pot metal re-chromed. I assume he did a great job?

Thanks,

Hans

Looked up the invoice...only paid $140. Handles only, no thumb buttons.
Pauls Chrome, Evans City, PA 800-245-8679.
Yes, the handles were great.

Thanks! Though more $, I prefer restoring original components vs putting repro's on the Z whenever possible/reasonable.

I agree, The Trim Parts handles were about $70, but I thought using originals would be worth the extra $70.
