View Full Version : 9737 sway bar diameter
bilodeaulynn Feb 22nd, 05, 03:31 PM I have received different answers from several "experts" now. Supposedly Ed Cuneen now is of the opinion that the 9737 COPO had a 1 inch sway bar. I have a 13/16 bar removed from what I thought was a 9737 COPO in the 70's. I always thought the 1 inch bar was strictly over the counter, but a guy just told me that Cuneen says the 13/16 bar was used on some non COPO big blocks and that McNeish's book is wrong.
What say you?
COPO9737 Feb 23rd, 05, 12:27 PM I have two 1968 9737 COPOs and both sway bars are exactly 1 inch in dameter. I thought the 69s were 13/16?
bilodeaulynn Feb 23rd, 05, 06:48 PM I got several replies on the Yenko site from guys with Yenkos or other 69 9737 COPO's and all state the 69 9737 has a 13/16 bar.
The guy who told me otherwise must have confused the info with that for a 68.

COPO9737 Feb 24th, 05, 12:20 AM That is probaly what happened. I also had a 69 Yenko and it have the 13/16.
Unreal Feb 24th, 05, 03:10 PM Heartbeat City has a 1" bar on ebay right now. Last I looked, it was $450 and reserve not met. He claims it is for a 69 Camaro. Maybe he was listening to Ed, too.
I'm no expert, but I'm fairly certain the 9737's were all 13/16" although I could believe that the 1" bar was on a few other cars, as well.
Don't know how many non-Yenko double COPOs were made, but not many. I know Berger sold some, but don't know who else might have jumped on the band wagon.
Unreal Feb 24th, 05, 03:14 PM Hey COPO9737, are your two 68's from Yenko Chevrolet? I thought he was the only one who knew about 9737 in 68, but not positive. I know not all of his got converted to 427's.
bilodeaulynn Feb 24th, 05, 04:11 PM BTW, I did not mean to misquote Ed Cunneen, but realize I did indirectly. Ed chimed in on the Yenko site to confirm that all 69 9737 COPO Camaros had a 13/16 bar.
Case closed. Heartbeat City is selling a 1 inch bar, but it was strictly over the counter. I remember looking at one in the Chevrolet Power catalog in the 70's. It was discontinued sometime before the 5th Edition printed in 1984.

bilodeaulynn Feb 26th, 05, 09:38 AM Hey 10B Z28:
Do you have a black Z with black vinyl top? Mine is 10 10 08A of 69. When was yours made?
Lynn
10BZ28 Feb 27th, 05, 04:02 AM No vinyl top, Ivory standard interior, 10B 1968. It's kind of a plain car because my Father thought the Z28 package included the Rally Sport option and D80. He had seen one at the Dealer announcement show . One of the few times he was wrong!

10BZ28 Feb 27th, 05, 04:11 AM Lynn,
Silver, not black.

bilodeaulynn Feb 27th, 05, 05:29 PM I see, 10B represented the date. I was thinking 10 B as in paint code. Mine is 10 10.

COPO9737 Feb 28th, 05, 01:19 PM Unreal, both cars were from Yenko. My Bronze car was a dealer trade to Kenny Ross in Pittsburgh where I bought it in September of 1968. The Rallye Green car I have recently sold and it was bought off the lot at Yenko. Both cars a non-converted. The rallye Green car has the pop showing the MV coded motor and mine still has the original drive train..
Unreal Feb 28th, 05, 05:36 PM COPO9737,
I didn't remember your screen name, but I remembered your story on the Corvette Bronze 68. Yours was the one I was thinking of when I said not all 9737s were converted. Didn't you locate the original motor and reunite it with the car?
COPO9737 Mar 1st, 05, 12:00 PM Yes, The fellow I sold it to kept the motor stored away. It only has a couple thousand miles on it. It was pulled in 1970 and a L-88 was installed. He sold the tranny a couple of years ago but we were able to track it down in Butler, Pa. and get it back..
Unreal Mar 1st, 05, 07:26 PM I love happy endings!!!!
JOE58 Mar 2nd, 05, 07:15 AM While researching the 1967 Yenko Camaros I found this ad in some of the Yenko estate paperwork. It was run in a local publication dated Sep 1968. Yenko usually ran late with his cars as some 67 68 and 69 cars were sold late in the year after new models were already out. The ad has 8 hi po Camaros for sale and lists a 396 375hp Rally Green Camaro with 140 speedo, five 396 375hp Corvette Bronze Camaros with 140 speedo, a 396 325hp Ash Gold auto trans Camaros with 140 speedo and two 427 Yenko Super Camaros

COPO9737 Mar 2nd, 05, 12:03 PM First thing, I would like to thank Joe C. for all his help in establishing that there were non-converted cars in existence. I recently sold the Rallye Green car that is in this add and mine is one of the 5 Corvette Bronze cars. To date no other non-converted cars have surfaced.
