I mentioned to a friend that I had lost an item on ebay that I really wanted/needed. He said "do what I do, wait pretty late in the auction and throw a couple thousand dollars on there and it will automatically out bid anyone else...unless someone else trys this trick". That's exactly what happened. By two bidders!

Check out www.esnipe.com. It is cheap and will place last minute bids for you down to the last second. Much faster than what you could do manually.
If I want something but dont want to drive the price up I use this. It is also nice if you decide to pull or modify your bid before the auction ends.
