What is a simple way to tell if you have a posi or open rear when the car is in the air on a rack? Don't want to get into taking it apart.

View Full Version : open or posi rear? Chris Lowe Mar 28th, 05, 09:48 AM What is a simple way to tell if you have a posi or open rear when the car is in the air on a rack? See if both turn same direction.Have someone hold other wheel wile jacked up and try to turn(sometimes open will turn same way) see if hard to turn(sometimes clutches are worn). jackalope Mar 28th, 05, 03:51 PM Or you could do it the fun way do about 10 burnouts and if you have 2 tracks more often then not you have posi! supv26 Mar 28th, 05, 06:54 PM Here is an example of an open rearend! :D http://www.fidnet.com/~m26/burnout2.jpg RamAirDave Mar 28th, 05, 10:13 PM supv26: so where exactly where were you going? looks like theyre running off into a ditch Turn one wheel, while car is off the ground. If the other turns the opposite direction, its open. If it turns the same, its posi. Unless somethings off in the rear end, thats the easiest way. dave supv26 Mar 29th, 05, 04:25 PM RamAirDave, I started in the parking lot which is actually at the top of the picture. I came out of the parking lot across the road and into my drive way. I was not moving very fast at all, actually just creeping along when I did that. I let off just as I got to the gravel. It looks like I did hit the gravel but the tire quit spinning on the white line. Oh, I did not do that with my Camaro, I did that with my old wood truck. LOL..... people think it's just an old slow truck but it ain't!!! ;) Unreal Mar 29th, 05, 05:27 PM My Cousin, Vinnie!!! RamAirDave Mar 29th, 05, 08:16 PM Youre right on with that one, unreal dave supv26 Mar 29th, 05, 09:21 PM My cousin, Vinnie...........must be some old italian flick????? :clonk:  RamAirDave Mar 29th, 05, 09:31 PM Youre kidding, right? Its from the early-mid 90s with Joe Pesci (Vinnie, the lawyer). The legal case came down to a picture of 2 tire tracks leaving the scene of the crime. Then Marisa Tomei (mmmm) let them know that the car the accused (Vinnie's cousin, hence the name) were driving was never available with posi. Case closed. Anyway, the pic you posted looks a lot like the one from the movie. dave supv26 Mar 30th, 05, 02:21 PM Oh yea now I remember!!!!! Good movie too hehehehehehe :beers: |
