Help me!!!
My gas pedal stuck up on me not long ago and I'm sure you'll agree that's pretty frightning. Does anyone know what kind of problem I'm dealing with? maybe it's just dirty and getting jammed up? please help before it happens again.
thanx

Check the spring on your carb, make sure it doesn't bind on your air filter. Might need to replace the spring if its weak.
I'd also recommend removing the gas pedal rod from the firewall and clean this up. You can buy a new plastic piece of that goes in the firewall that your gas pedal rod sits in if yours is cracked or damaged. Use some Graphite in this area to allow the pedal to move smoothly.
They also make bushings that insert into this plastic piece and the rod. I don't believe my 69 used them though when I installed the new plastic piece

Here is the complete assembly from Ricks Camaros. I could not find just the plastic piece itself but I know I bought just that piece awhile back from either Ricks or Classic Industries.

it shoiuldn't be, it's a simple mechanical linkage, so you mostly just need to make sure nothing is binding. If you don't have a dual retuirn spring you should get one.

Another thing worth checking is your drivers side motor mount. If it's broken, the motor could move enough to bind the linkage up.

I second the broken motor mount. I had the same thing happen a few years back.

If this is on your '97, this thing won't help a bit....Does the pedal stick closed? kinda snaps open when you push on the gas?

i had to actually lift the pedal back up with my foot so no it didn't snap back. it hasn't done it since but it still feels spongy. so does the brake. maybe this is related?
thanx for all the info

I have had the throttle stick under the floor mat...not sure if this is what happened to you. I have not had one stick open by itself. That WOULD be scary! There is a spring coiled up on the side of the shaft in the throttle body that acts as a return spring. Possibly something wrong with this? The brake sponginess is not related. This indicates air in the system somewhere. This needs to be looked at as it could cause a wreck.

thanx for the warning about my brakes. i'll have someone try to bleed them soon. gas pedal is still doing ok. i dont have floormats so it couldn't have been that. gum on my shoe......well call me wierd but i drive barefoot. high heels and gas pedals dont mix. ill definitly check out the springs though.
thanx again
