There are clear engine paints at Advance\AutoZone, etc.

For durability I recommend POR15 PC Glisten.

Does Glisten PC make the tank too shiny? Does it turn yellow over time?

I considering using the satin diamond clear from eastwood or Nyalic. Eastwood used to sell Nyalic, but not anymore. Now you can buy it staight from the company (www.nyalic.com).

Thanks,
Marc

Ive never had an issue with new tanks looking bad, but I suppose they will after a (very) long time. Kind of like the steel vs. stainless brake/fuel lines argument. The steels may look bad in 60 years or so, considering the conditions most of our cars stay/are driven in.

Ive not been impressed with the diamond clear from Eastwood. Every can I've used didnt spray well AT ALL. Just kinda spit out, even when brand new. And it takes a long time to dry. They used to sell a "detail clear" that was satin, dried quick, and seems to hold up well, but its not in their catalog anymore. Not sure if ive used the Nyalic or not, so I cant say.

Hmm. Never had a problem with Eastwood's stuff.

The Glisten PC is glossy but doesn't yellow. I did my tank 4 years ago and it still looks great. Being under the car, you don't get light reflecting off it where it might 'shine' too much. Having said that, and to refer back to an earlier comment, my gas lines which are new ( 3 years ago ) still look perfect with no treatment.

Clear powder coat. Just had my cast aluminum intake done. Looks great.

Use Diamond Clear. I used it on the 69 over 4 years ago. It still looks like new.

I used 2 coats of POR clear paint and 2 coats of spray bomb clear coat sealer. I liked the end results here: http://www.brainerd.net/~knudsen/69RS/GasTank/
Many other products will give you similar results Id think

I had NOS tank in my 68 Elcamino and it changed color within 2 years just sitting in garage. I had no coating at all on it but that was ten years ago and I didn't know of any coating to protect it then.

I used the Plain Clear POR-15 on my Z/28 and unfortunately, after a few months it had a few patches of yellowing that I must say, makes me cringe thinking about it. I wish I had used POR-15 Glisten. Just my 2 cents worth....
