View Full Version : Inner fender well question
Brackneyc Mar 28th, 05, 08:37 PM My passenger side fender well is is rusted/gone right below the battery tray. The rest of the fender well is perfect. Now, I could spend the 90.00+ to get a repop, or maybe I can salvage this one. Has anyone ever added a section to a fender well? I want the car to look good, but I am not going for concourse show quality. I know I can fab something up, but wanted to see if anyone had done it, and what they did to make it look decent.
gene_sc Mar 28th, 05, 09:24 PM I have patched some(depends how big the rot is and how pitted ect) as well as taken a good front section ,with wasted back and put it on another with a bad front just seperate it at the spot welds makes for clean repair.
Brackneyc Mar 28th, 05, 09:42 PM I may go to the junk yard and see if I can find somehitng that can be tweaked and modified to fit. The part is good all the way around to the front, but the flat section that extends to the battery tray is gone.

I may have one that I can cut that part off, you can have for the cost of shipping to you. I'll take a pic of it and see if you can use it
Brackneyc Mar 29th, 05, 06:00 AM That would be great. Let me know what it would cost to go to 61201. This group is awesome. Thanks Gene.

basscat Mar 29th, 05, 08:18 AM I rebuilt both of mine with no prior experience. It wasn't bad but definitely took more time than the effort of just plunking down $90. I rationalized it as a warmup for repairing my fenders. Here's the link:

Since my initial posting, I've sandblasted, primed and painted them - they look new and I learned something in the process.
JimM Mar 29th, 05, 08:32 AM I also did mine too, as practice. The only metal that was "gone" was about a square inch, right at the outside where the curve of the fender goes level. I sandblasted the heck out of it, rebuilt the small missing section and filled pinholes with por putty, then por15'd and top coated it. Turned out good, but then it was only a lil bit that was gone completely.

It has some pitting but I took a screw driver and couldn't punch a hole thru it. The bolt holes for the fender to extension are bad as well but the part under the battery is fine and should look decent once sand blasted. Let me know if this will work for you and I will cut it off for you and figure what shipping would be. Click on image for a larger version use arrows at top to navigate to next pic ect
Brackneyc Mar 29th, 05, 10:38 PM That would be perfect for what I need. If you could, cut it right up to where it meets the large section of the well. I can figure out something for the bolt holes, but what you have there will be just what I need. Figure shipping, and I'll get you the shipping charge right away.
Thank you
gene_sc Mar 30th, 05, 08:56 AM I'll get it cut off today
e-mail me your address and I'll get it shipped tommorow if I have time.... I can't see shipping (ground) being much if any over 12 -13 bucks
