I removed the old material on the roof (under headliner) and found lots of rust. Do I sand all of that down to metal and apply something like rust morte and then wash and primer and paint? Do I need something else to put under the new headliner when I put it back in? Also, I have put rust morte on the floor pan, washed it off, put some new seam sealer down. How do I finish the floor pan for carpet? Thanks. Oh, this is a front clip rest. on a 67 camaro which is not back to original. Not a show car.

I hope you put some primer or sealer down over rust mort before you put on seam sealer.... I have had the seam sealer bubble... left over chemicals from rust mort. your plan for the roof sound fine...I would just epoxy it after treating the rust and be done with it..... same for floor prep

Make sure you replace the sound deadener on the roof before you re-install the headliner or it will sound like a tin can when you close the doors.

Thanks for the info. I have a few more questions. Where do I find the sound deadener material for the roof panel? Also the seam sealer I put on the two days ago is not quite set up and there are cracks in it. Should I peel it all off and start over? Also, I am not sure what you mean by epoxy paint? Any recommendations for the paint brand would be much appreciated. I don't have a paint gun but I do have a compressor.

The sound deadener can be bought at most body shop supply houses and maybe from Ground Up, the sponsor of this site. Check to see for sure. It will be between the headliner and the roof so the color won't matter.
Epoxy paint is simply a type of paint that is very durable but it is not always available in all colors.
I use PPG paints because they kept the formulas for all the older cars and colors. That's something some other paint manufacturers didn't do. Talk to you local PPG dealer. They can help you with what you need and give you directions that will help.
