I just got the heater core out last night,(what a joy). sao now i see the firewall pad is junk, how bad is this to change? i see in RICKS and CLASSIC you have to cut out the heater box hole, because the heater delete uses the solid pad.

I never could get mine in and look right. I gave up and just used a double layer of sound deadner that I used in the rest of the interior.

hi i just changed my firewall pad about 4 monts ago. the area for the heater is stamped you just have to cut the spots that are not stamped thru it was a two person job when you go to put the screws in the new pad .i removed my gas pedal i took the old pad put it on top of the new one made sure all the hole lined up taking in concederation 40 years of heat the old pad was in pretty bad shape i think i had to cut the pad to get it off from around the speedo cable and had to take the fuse box off. so i marked the new pad with pen where the screws where located but didnt push hole thru i put the new pad in place as best i could when i was pretty happy i folded areas back sprayed glue on the firewall and on the pad and pushed it back in place on the right side theres two plastic retainers that go thru the pad in the firewall the hole is about 3/8'' then i had help from my wife i had her push a all from the front side of the firewall i made sure the pad staied against the fire wall with a peice of wood so i didnt get stuck and as she pulled the all out i followed it with a screw i didnt think it was hard to do have fun take your time ...tony

I thought it was the worst part of my resto. What a pain in the butt to put in and my car was completely stripped. The repo pads are not even close with the perferations and holes. i found my self cutting and punching holes and the pad is a tough bugger to cut. I finally massaged the damn thing in there. It was tough around the steering column, fuse block and parking brake area. I got mine from Rick's, I think they are all the same. You'll see how well it fits when you get it. Good Luck!!
