Greetings from Pennock's Fiero Forum! This is my first time here and this is a great looking place for info. I hope someone here can give me some advice.

I'm converting my 1988 Fiero to power steering using an '02 Camaro rack. The Fiero rack is 3.5 turns lock-to-lock. Slow! I purchased a rack off of EBay and it arrived with no plugs in the high pressure and return ports and no hard lines to the rack assembly.

I'm concerned about debris having gotten into the openings during shipping. Is there some process for flushing out whatever is in there?

Thanks

Maybe once it is hooked up to the pump you can lead the rack return hose to a bucket, cap the return on the pump, and keep the resivoir full. That's how I did my P/S box.

Attach a line attached to a funnel to the inboard port. Attach a line from the port nearest the input shaft to a bucket. Pour GM power steering fluid into the funnel and turn the input shaft full lock to full lock a few times. Oil will be sucked from the funnel and discharged into the bucket. If there is no debris, you can reuse the fluid. Even if there is debris, if you filter through a coffee filter or an old t-shirt the clear fluid can be reused.

Disconnect the return line and have it dump to a bucket...remove the coil wire and crank the motor a bit and make sure to keep the system full of fluid.
