Okay who has used POR's chevy orange paint and their gray manifold paint?
If so do you like it and would you use it again? I'm getting close to painting my engine and I need to get the paint now so I'm ready.

I see they sell a pint and a quart. I'm painting a 350 smallblock, how much would I need?

I love it, kinda thick went it went on, I did 2 coats and 2 coats of clear spray bomb. I used foam brush. Still looks great today.

As far as how much POR to get, start small.
If all you're going to paint is an engine, get a pint. You'll be surprized how much you have left over. You might even get away with just a small 4oz. can. I only used two 4oz. cans and part of another to paint my entire subframe. Twice.

Don't open the can by the lid and piant from it. Pop the lid just long enough to STIR the paint, then seal it back up good. Don't get any paint in the lid groove. Turn the can over and pop or drill a hole in the bottom of the can that a screw or bolt will fit into. Pour out only as much as you're going to use (small amount!) into something else, then plug that hole. Seal the can in a Zip-Loc bag and store it upside down on it's top. If you can, put it in the fridge when you're done.

Oh yeah.... do the painting OUTSIDE! Don't work with POR paints without a very good respirator and VERY good ventilation. Believe me... you'll understand when you start painting.

I plan on painting my block, heads, oil pan, and intake. Will a pint do all of that? They also recommended putting a coat of the silver metal prep first.
Does the engine orange look slick like a spray job when done? What about the manifold gray does it look good?

I have not started my engine yet, so I can't comment on longevity or how it stands up to heat. I used red on my block and heads, sure looks nice, smooth and should be easy to keep clean. I used foam brushes also, with thin coats. The oil pan was another story though, wanted to run on me, because its alot smoother than block. I agree, a pints plenty to do an engine. Good luck, use thin coats and I think you will like the results.

i just painted mine black (looks like it's coated in slick plastic now). i bought their engine paint kit and it comes with everything needed even rubber gloves and brushes and spray bottles. 4 oz. can of por-15 for primer and 1 pint of black topcoat. it was plenty. follow the instructions exactly. do a search for engine paint. most agree it's the best and holds up, that's the reason i went with it. i've read that the orange is kinda thin and most had to 2-coat it. there were isuues about the silver undercoat/primer. like i said do a search and get it right the first time.

CK 2-

My winter project was pulling the motor and painting it along with the engine compartment. I used the POR orange engine enamel and it turned out great. Hopefully it stays that way. I would like to post some pics, but I'm not sure how. If you want me to email some to you just let me know along with your email address.

I ordered a quart and have about half of it left.

Old yeller, did you use the silver under the orange? What about the manifold paint anyone use it?

No, I took as much of the old paint off and then put a coat of POR 15 on it. Once dry, I started with the POR engine enamel. If you use the orange enamel, the first coat will look like crap (at least it did on mine and my bro-in-law's). I have three coats on mine. It turned out great in my opinion.

Do you want me to email some pictures to you? Please post your email address. Thanks!

Using a foam brush, I used the por15 silver, then used 2 coats of the engine orange. I bought a quart of orange and have enough to do another motor.

Looks great and I recommend using it.

As I said earlier, I need to paint an entire 350 engine. Heads, block, oilpan, intake, and valve covers. I called POR friday and they recommended using the silver under the orange. I hate to buy the kit and run short. Because I have a respirator & rubber gloves. My engine will be clean, and I can get some paint brushes.

I just don't want to run short. Will a pint of orange paint all of this and cover it good?
I need to order this tomorrow in order to paint this next weekend so I need some quick advice..

What about the manifold gray, anyone used it. I also need to paint my rearend housing. Would the black be good for this?

Thanks again everyone for all the help.

That looks really nice. Looks like you did a great job. I wonder if the black would look good on my rearend housing? I think the engine enamel is a little cheaper than the chassis black.

Remember to use your gloves... getting this stuff on your hands will leave them colored for months..

If you're concerned about running out, buy 2 pints, not 1 quart. That way, if 1 pint is enough, you'll have an unopened can. I believe the engine enamel needs engine heat for final curing so I wouldn't use it on the rearend housing.

Okay, I got my POR today. I read the instructions and it says you MUST use Metal Ready before applying the POR. I didn't get Metal Ready.

I thought a clean degreased engine could be coated with the POR silver rust preventive paint. Then use the POR engine enamel over that.

I have a quart of Jasco metal prep/rust neutralizer. Would you guys try this, order some Metal Ready, or just make sure the block is clean and free of grease and start painting?

Did everyone here use the metal ready?

Would you all suggest painting the engine with POR before or after assembly?
I got my engine back from the machine shop today and they sprayed it with cast blast. So I guess I will have to clean that off.
