I am running a Moroso blue-printed standard volume pump. Not sure if that is "the best" pump out there but it is certainly a good one. It is just a Melling standard volume pump that has been tweeked a little.

I would use a big block chevy oil pump along with a larger pan at least 7qt. I have a Canton pan with this set-up on a small block.

Stick with the Melling (#M55), they work fine, but don't use their screens if you run over 500HP. The internal vibrations will cause the screen to break loose from the tube, this happened to us twice on testing. (Also we always see the Moroso windage trays, especially in the BB's, with stress cracks, seems they're a bit to brittle, but cause no damage). Back to the screens, the first time we figured it was a defective part, the second time, we knew we we're right. They just can't take the stress. In steel rod street motors, use the pump with the high-pressure spring (Melling part #M98015) installed, this turns the pump into a duplicate of the factory Z28/LT1 hi-pressure pump. The pick-ups by Moroso, Canton , etc. are all fine. Also completely dissassemble it and weld in the pick-up tube. Don't just tack it, go all around it. We see 55#/60# pressure on the engine stand, before the ***'y gets on the dyno. Thanks, Gary
