i am putting my exhaust together and was wondering if anyone has done something like this......

the hookes leave the collector at 3.5in...so i called dr.gas...and i can take it to the X in 3.5 then reduce it to 3in and then send it out the back...

i have a tremec and i was wondering if this is possible or if anyone has done it>>

i dont care if its too much or too little exhaust...i just want to know whats been done....

hooker number is 2457...68 car.... stock suspension and rear end...subframe connectors and traction bars....

Thats way too big an exhaust!!!
just kiddin:)
Dont see why you couldnt do it...
I've done a few 3.5 and 4" systems, and a Tremec isnt any longer then a TH400. Just run the 3.5 back to where the X is just past the tail of the trans or behind the u-joint, then position the muffs where you want them and play connect the dots - collectors to X and X to muffs. If you have ground clearance issues you can squash the pipe in a vice a bit when workin with big stuff like 3.5 or 4"
Hope thats helps.

Kris,

I run the exact setup on my 540 ragtop, I have a set of Dan Lemons 2.125 primary tubes to 3.5in collectors to a dr gas 3.5 inch openings at the x-pipe and 3inch outlets on the back side of the x-pipe. Then straight tubes run down the tunnel to dynomax ultras flows and dump before the axle. The only difference is I run a supercase muncie you have a tremec. The system works great, sounds nasty. Im sure its plenty enough flow for a 700 hp power plant. My last trip to the track yielded a 124mph so I know the hp is there Just need to get that 60 foot down. Grabbing gears is a challenge! Have fun.

cool.... where did you locate the X pipe...i have read, the closer to the collector the better......i am thinking dynomax ultra flows too....

Ordered it direct from Dr. Gas check out his site. He sells it as a kit with the tubes going in and out.

:clonk: i know..lol.....i am ordering it from them....but how far back did you position the X pipe in relation to the tranny/collector/muffler..........i guess where the damn thing will fit ;) .....

also...is there a smaller oil pressure sending unit i can use....the big fat OE one i have just wont fit......

I have the 2457s on my 68. I ran 3.5" back to the X pipe inlet and 3" out into Dynomax 17749 super Hemis and then 2.5" out of the mufflers over the axle and exit stock location. You can hardly hear my car running at idle, and it runs mild 11s in the 1/4. Its a great sleeper car exhaust system.

I home made my X pipe (I have a machine shop, a TIG welder and a lift) and I had to cut the 2.5" inlet out of my muffers and make them 3" inlets. But the point is, It can be done.

well i know it can be done :D noisemaster now has a 3inch kit for out cars...exiting out the rear...

but i am not sure i want flowmaster....i want my presence known, but i dont want my own car to annoy me..... :clonk:

so i am looking at ultraflows right now...then a tailpipe kit from flows i think..

i know i want to keep the 3.5 to the X then i want 3 out from there...

i just got the headers installed tonight...about 4 hours by myself...god, i remember doing the shorties on my 93 LT1 camaro........that was an all day deal, WITH a buddy....

thanks for the input guys....

I too did this on my chevelle 3.5" to 3.0" but I went 3" to the mufflers, attached are some pictures. I have the ultraflows and love them. I did have the flowmasters but they were just too loud and didnt sound right to me. I also added electric cutouts...

The pictures are dark but I put the X-pipe as close as I could to the trans crossmember. At the track I have no noticble improvement with the electric cutouts open so this tells me the system flows well.

ahhhhh, nothing like the sound of the lower tube on a set of BBC 2" primary super comp headers hitting the ground! That is pretty strange, i have the exact same headers on a second gen. Can't get the oil filter out, and for some reason that one tube is lower than everything else, and the pass. side is about 8" longer than the driver??? what a stupid design! You should see how long mine are with the extra flowmaster 4-2-1 c collectors on top of those!

Yah, I think that happened the first week I installed them! They just plain hang too low.

Pick up the latest issue of Popular Hotrodding. The one with the gold Chevy II on the front.
There's an excellent article in there written by David Vizard all about how, why, which, when and where of a performance exhaust system.
;)
